kind of a B&M question but..

Beating the rake in this game...

1/2 NL. 100$ max buy in. w/ 5$ session fee every 30 mins. (takes about 5-6 mins to do this..)

Its not like these dealers are quick either.. pooled tips.

that means every hour 100$ is taken off the table. and the buy in is 50BB which is quite shallow to begin with...

is this normal rake at B&M.. or does it seem quite high?

Where I live the casinos only offer 1/2 NL and only $100 Max buy. $5 Rake max as sanctioned by Provincial government.

Dealers aren't so bad, there's a shuffler in the table and the tips are pooled.

However, the players are TERRIBLE. Think 1c/2c gambooler's with money in their pocket they're eager to burn.

Greektown Casino in Detroit has a 1/2 NL with a $50 min and $100 max. They charge $6 every 30 minutes. It's also a "freezeout," which means once you buy in you can't reload until you go broke. Don't ask. I have no explanation other than the people there have no clue about poker. Obviously paying $12 an hour and the "freezeout" structure makes the game pointless.

The 1/2 at Foxwoods is the same way. If people weren't so godawful at poker, it would not be beatable but since they are, its not the end of the world. If there's a bigger game available where you are (as there is at Foxwoods now-- 2/5 with a 300-500 buyin and a $6/half time charge), try to get bankrolled for that ASAP as the players will likely not be much better.

In AC, they pull a rake (usually $4 max) at NL 1/2 $300 max buy-in.

Most small tables like this are raked and not time charged. I am surprised this is a time charge table. Time charge sucks for a very tight player. The time charge usually happens with larger stakes where it is a pain to make change on every hand. For the really big tables they do a community pot time charge, where the winner of the time charge hand pays for the entire table.
