99 on big blind

I have 99 on the big blind 3 others limp from middle position, I raise and they call. The flop is uncoordinated with 10 being the highest card. Do I check or bet here? A check might encourage a bluff, but a bet could wasted against a pair of tens.

If one of later position players is aggressive then check/raise a button bet, otherwise, lead

I bet the flop here... but I also don't raise 99 from the blinds, for the same reason I don't raise AJo or KQo -- I don't think the equity you are maximizing is enough to make up for poor position you will be in the rest of the hand. I will raise TT+ though, and AJs, KQs.

Anyone agree/disagree?

Bet all day! If someone has a T... oh well. Checking may get it checked through (who is going to bet?), and that would be diasterous.

I don't like going for a check/raise after I raised preflop.

I do actually raise 99 from the bb here although 88/AJ/KQ I'll check so it's probably pretty arbitrary. I also raise it from early position, but I guess that has a chance of thinning the field. Perhaps I'm being too aggressive here.

Just as an aside, I dont see how 99 is any better than 88 except that it can hit a royal board with a dummy straight... People love calling with 2 cards over ten, so if you have 99 and 4 limpers I dont see alot of equity in raising, as youll have to lead almost any flop, which further cuts into any equity you have... the chances of an entire board being below 10 is next to nothing, and people will donk it up with only over cards because you raised and made the pot nice and big for them to chase what they always assume are live overcards... I know all the charts say to raise it, but I wonder if they take the .5/1 limit mentality into effect

99 is absolutely better than 88. People (even tags) will limp with hands like K9s but muck K8s. There are 4 fewer overcards to worry about. There is a better chance of having 3 undercards on the flop.
