Last time I played live, I did exactly this -- bought three racks of $1s. The number of comments I got was exceptional.

Of course, people sat down with piles of redbirds ($5s) and did not get any comment whatsoever. One person, thinking it was a no limit table, sat down with $300 in reds -- the max buy-in had he been at the right table -- and no one said a word. Another guy had a eight greens and two towers of red, and was met with silence.

If anything, you are better off doing what I did. People lose track of the value of the chips and instead consider the sheer volume.

The reason I stopped buying in for more than 25xBB is that the last time I did it, it intimidated a lot of the other players and they all tightened up against me. Better to buy in for 25xBB and add more if you lose a monster pot.

No need to scare the fish.

Of course if you are looking to buy enough to mess around, then you should buy in for 500 (or more) and build a castle. Laught a lot when you sit down and be sure to tell the table that you are castle building. It will help.

One early mornign at the muck I was sitting in a fairly nitty limit HE 4/8 game. I lost $20 or $30 and was fealing pretty sporty. Another person was nagging me so I chipped up to a dime. That number of whites is just too much to handle well, but it does look impressive on the table.

I left that game up 13 grand. I had to color up a few times.

I don't give a darn if it's rude, with results like this I'd do it again.
