January goals post (and December revisited)

Here's a list to last month's goals post. Compare your goals with what you actually did in December, then post your goals for January.

here's my December post:

[ QUOTE ]
-finally get a 10k hand month in
-get comfortable at 0.50/1.00
-go through PT after each session and replay the hands i lost the most in

[/ QUOTE ]

-will only finish with about 9k hands (B-)
-all of that was at 0.50/1 NL and I'm very comfortable there now (A+)
-reviewed hands for a couple days, then got lazy (D)

January goals:

-finally get a 10k hand month in
-move up to 1/2, get comfortable there
-post a hand here every day, and reply to at least one other hand thread

hmmm:
play 40k hands
be happy with my play for the at least 30 of those 40k hands.

that's about it

PS: reviewing the hands you lost money with seems a bit strange (as a method) since you can misplay a bunch of hands you win and play perfectly in 90% of your big pots lost, just a thought.

PPS: nice thread

I agree. As soon as I question a hand at all, whether I win or lose it, I e-mail it to myself. I probably have 200+ in my e-mail account that I still have to go through. If I won it, I still could have played it wrong, so I e-mail all those too. Poker tracker won't tell you when you misplayed a winning hand.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

My goals are:

1)Become more comfortable with .10/.25 at party- I've only been playing there about 2weeks and am just starting to play comfortably.

2)Work on my game; reviewing hands in PT that I feel I misplayed, post hands that I feel are questionable, reread TOP.

3)Make $300-500 playing $25NL and/or play 10,000hands

4)Become more familiar with Poker Tracker.

5)Don't go on tilt for a week and blow $150 stupidly

Logik 12-27-2005 04:37 AM

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Current BR: $750
Goal BR: $1250

Stakes: 50NL

Wish me luck =)

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Put in enough hands you'll make $500+ in rakeback easy.

January goals, hmmm...

Beat 50NL 6max for $1000, thus building my roll to $2500.
Take a shot at $100NL 6max.
Remove the "weak" from "weak tight" without becoming a calling station or a LAG.
Pay more attention to reading hands.
Play at my local casino's 1/3NL $300 buy-in and beat it.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

guys, please remember that a good goal is specific and measurable. If you can't measure it, then it's probably not a good goal, i.e., "don't tilt" or "don't be a LAG" are not good goals.

Perhaps "sit out for 5 minutes after losing a pot > 80BB to help me control tilt" would be a better goal.

With that said. My goals for January:
Play 2k hands of 100NL 6max to get me comfortable playing 6max.
Post 5 hands to this forum.
Post 10 poker-related responses to this forum.

30K hands at 200NL, maintaining for at least 6ptbb/100.

final table of a large field 1500+.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Maintain 6BB/Hr at .50/1
Venture more into 1/2, get more comfortable, 4BB/Hr+
Post 3 hands/week.

wtf?

Variance? How would this ever be a logical goal in one month's time?

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

10K more hands at 100NL
move to 200NL and play 10K hands
Play a large tourney every week or at least once every two weeks (as it is now ive played one in like 5 months)
Post a hand every day.
Reread TOP and read HOH

Its a goal every month. Thanks for asking though.

Plus, i usually play the 40K most nights on PP which always has more than 1500.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Right but having a "goal" in an MTT just seems silly. It should be play as strong as you can for the duration. 10 cashes with no final table may be better than 1 final table and 0 other cashes.

Unless your goal really isn't to make money but simply to make a final table? I don't see how that could be +EV though.

And what if you make the final table with 33% of the C.I.P. and then donk them all off and bust ASAP? Is that really an accomplished "goal"?

Sure I'm nitpicking. but I'm bored.

January Goals:

-Deposit $$ onto partypoker and start playing the 25s.
-Get pokertracker/pokerace, learn the art of bonus whoring.
-Get my feet wet and learn to multitable well.
-Accumulate 1/4 the BR necessary for the 50NL level.
-Read more poker books.

I think it is. playing the 30+3s, cashing gets you 50-150 bucks. Final table gets you $1000-6000 bucks. 10 cashes is worse than making 5th place once.

60,000 hands.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Actually play 20k hands without tilting before moving up (assuming I have the roll). Rinse and repeat. Hopefully will be back to 200nl by the end of the month.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

1. Play >20K hands at NL25$
2. Improve my results from the blinds
3. Write a SOP document for my play.
4. Work out strategies for playing different opponents

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

- play 10 hours/week

- read and post more on 2+2

1. Play 20K hands 8-tabling $200NL and/or $400NL
2. Play 40 hours live

[/ QUOTE ]

i only played about 5K online hands, but got in about 150 hours of live play (mostly 2/5, some 1/2). i've also had my single most successful month, making about $14,500 with 21 winning sessions and only 2 losing ones.

January:
- 4 days a week live, 1 day online (~2K hands/day)
- play good

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

I've always been a SNG / MTT player, so my goal is to make a transition to NL cash games this month. I'm going to start at NL50 and hopefully get in at least 25k hands this month. I'd like to have enough hands and enough money to move up to NL100 at the end of the month.

My other goal is to get my f-ing neteller account set up for use. I've been trying to do this for a year and a half now (and been using Firepay in the meantime). The bastards can't verify my SSN, so hopefully that gets worked out this month as well.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

- Make $300 profit from playing $11 STT's.
- Read David Sklansky's Theory of Poker.
- Focus on specific hands after playing each day to see where I could improve.
- Play and win (be ITM) in a live SNG.

Re: January goals post (and December revisited)

Play only NL for all of January.
Move down if I don't feel like I can play at current level
Stack a lot of people, because that is sooooooo much fun.
