That structure is terrifying.

I suspect you could live inside those tournaments for several weeks without ever popping out of either end.

I wonder what happens to all the clutter lying around in people's accounts after the wsop has taken place.

Re: party is doing steps for the world series.

Here's how it would probably go for me...

Plunk down $12.
Spend every waking hour moving up and down the ladder.
After 2 months of agony and almost making it to Step 6, find myself back at Step 1.
Finish 6th for a net $5 loss.
Repeat.

These Steps are confusing to me. I wonder if you'd be better off just playing a $50 SNG and keep pressing your luck until you either won enough to buy a WSOP entry or you lost your original 50 bucks.

Re: party is doing steps for the world series.

That is very interesting. I can only imagine that the level of play at steps 3, 4 and 5 will be a very wide range of skill levels.

At steps 4 and 5, you only have to finish in the top half of the table to basically stay at the same level. There are certainly some strategic considerations there.

Seether 04-05-2005 01:59 PM

What tab are these steps under?

I decided to mess around with this a little and I cant even find the tab that it is under. Does anyone else see where they are?

PokerPaul 04-05-2005 02:01 PM

did all these wsop steps just disappear??.

just qualified for another step but suddenly there are none to choose from in lobby?

Glitch?

I agree. The toughest part is getting past Step 1 (well, I guess the final step will be difficult, too), since you actually have to win it.

But if I made it to Step 4 or 5 and hit the top 5, there's a good chance I'd start an all-in fest, since if I bust, I just play again.

Agreed. Obviously it's better to create a structure that no one can comprehend rather than a simple and effective one. They really want to wreck us on those entry fees.

I played my first one....total rock fest.

I hope that isnt the norm.

I figure it should remain a total rock fest.
The grand prize is a trip to the big dance.
Everyone in it doesn't want to lose and is going to play pretty tight.
at least that's how i assume it will be

It's an interesting structure.

I'm not entirely convinced it's that terrifying though.

I might plunk down a couple of step 1 or step 2 buy-in's on this.

This is a very interesting point. I hope they have some plan for all the leftovers.

I usually buyin at the $200 level and have several of the Step 1's sitting in my account now. I would even give them away if that was an option. I just really don't want to play the really small ones.

The structure is great for good players and party.

With it being flat...i think it removes some of the luck.

While totally complicated and somewhat odd, I think this is a brilliant idea. I have been wondering why there weren't non stop qualification type tournaments into the WSOP. I think they could have done it much more simply though.

I think that's the appeal. For people who play recreationally, this has the potential to get you a lot of play for your $11 buyin. And the play is fun because you can dream that if you try hard you'll win the WSOP (as opposed to just spending that $11 on a $10+1 sng or putting it towards a buyin for a ring game where the potential upside is small).

1. $7
2. rebuy
3. step 2

PokerPaul 04-05-2005 08:56 PM

they should allow u too accrue step 1\'s for a step 2 freeroll.

5 step 1's u should be able to turn into a step 2 freeroll.

Those step ones are just a waste of time for higher limit pplayers especially when u consider u have to win whole thing to move forward.

MicroBob 04-05-2005 09:01 PM

Re: they should allow u too accrue step 1\'s for a step 2 freeroll.

agreed.
I'm on my 3rd Step 1 now (from initial $11 buy-in). Just getting re-acquainted with the blind-structure and also getting a general idea for how tight/loose the opposition is.

I will have no major objections if I only lose or 'only' take back the $7 cash and then just buying-in directly to step 2 or 3.
But the step 1 is kind of fun for how ridiculous it is and to get used to it.

I see where you're coming from, but people are already complaining that the system is too complicated. Adding rules about trading in buyins at one level for a buyin at another would only make it more so.

Ah wtf, I might as well give it a try after I clear the Empire bonus. I suppose it'll be easier at night and on weekends.
