How often do you use your second monitor

The Dell 2001FP is $426.85 right now (with coupons). I've got one 2001FP, and the low price is making me consider getting another one.

But I can't convince myself that I'd use it often enough for it to be worthwhile. Do I really want to 8-table? That sounds so boring.

Right now, I typically 3- or 4-table when I play fixed-limit hold 'em (although I've been playing more no-limit lately, and I just single-table that game). I prefer playing just three tables so I can watch a movie or surf the net in the other quarter of the screen.

Poker isn't my job, and I'm afraid that if I started playing more than four tables it would feel like work.

I know everyone is different. How many of you have bought a second monitor, eight-tabled for a while, got bored with it, and went back to playing fewer tables more often?

We've had 2 moniters for years, love it. If I only feel like 2 tabling, I can surf the net, work on e-mail, etc while the poker is on the other one. If I am 4-8 tabling, I keep half the tables on one monitor, half on the other, helps my brain keep things straight!

I hardly 8-table anymore, but the second monitor is great for porn.

You don't even really need to 8-table for full use of the 2nd monitor...I play anywhere from 3 to 6 tables and even when I'm playing 3 or 4, I use the 2nd monitor for the lobby screens, to make sure PT is importing ok, AIM, Firefox, or TV. If you like watching movies/reading websites while 3-tabling, it will be much better w/a 2nd monitor than just having it in one quarter of the screen, especially for surfing the web.

Re: Definition of a bargain

Bargain: Something you don't need at a price you can afford.

I have 2 monitors and use the second one much more than I thought I would. In fact I am looking to add a third monitor.

In your case it doesn't sound like you need a second monitor, you just find the price attractive. It seems likely prices will continue to drop, why not wait until you say "at that price I can't pass it up"?

I have three monitors. Two for poker and one for putting everything else on.

wouldn't you prefer to do these things in a 20 inch monitor, rather than a 5 inch monitor?

Yes, but not so much that I'd pay $430 for the pleasure.

I can really only justify the second monitor if I think of it as a poker investment rather than an entertainment expense. If I'm going to spend $430 on entertainment, I'd rather go to a strip club.

So would a second monitor be +EV for me? I'm not sure how often I'd play more than four tables. Maybe quite often once I got in the habit. Or maybe not. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

The poll results and comments in this thread have been helpful. It looks like most people who've gotten a second monitor consider it worthwhile.

not much video though. I still use a 17 w/ my 24. the extra space on the 24 is enough for trillian, and itunes.
