classic PVS, i think

Mostly posted for fun, but if you want to make any comments about it I'll listen. Also, I seem to be defective when it comes to operating hand converters.

UB $33, blinds 50-100

UTG: 1610
UTG+1: 1680
MP: 1740
CO: 2625
Button: 1230
SB: 1215
Hero (BB): 4900

Hero has 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG folds, UTG+1 raises to 200, cutoff calls, button calls, SB folds, Hero reraises to 1400, UTG+1 folds, cutoff calls, button folds.

Flop: Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Hero bets 1225, cutoff calls 1225 (all-in)

Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

River: 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

Results:

Cutoff has A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [pair of queens]
Hero has 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] [straight, seven high]

I'm pretty sure that's nothing like a PVS. At all.

The idea is to take down a decent pot preflop because nobody has shown any strength. In this case, there was an EP raise which indicates strength, someone calling that raise which indicates strength, and then an overcall - which, believe it or not, indicates strength.

Classic luck, I know.

I wouldn't say a min-raise and two calls indicated much strength, but if you want to call it a 'classic big-stack resteal that got lucky and luck is fun' I won't argue.

I didn't say it indicates much strength - just that it indicates strength.

As I said, the basic concept behind the PVS is to pwn limpers...steal a pot when nobody else has shown any strength.

PVS?

PVS: Forum jargon named after poster “Phil Van Sexton”: a play in which a player attempts to steal the dead chips in a pot caused by limping or a raise and a few callers all believed to be weak. Usually this is done when the dead chips in the pot are a significant percentage of the player’s stack, and is only really a PVS when done with junk cards.

He made a post a while back about something he likes to do in level 3 to pick up some extra chips. Can't find it after a quick search though.

edit: Okay, here it is. Also, Phoenix makes a good explanation

Thanks! I play the deeper stacks at UB so I don't think it applies as much to my game as if I was on party.

This is FPS not PVS and is totally horrible.
