It's been years now, but I spent several spring breaks there and one full summer. Beautiful place. White sand. Hot girls. Great partying.

How much do you like a slutty-hot-girls-that-occasionally verges-into-"Girls Gone Wild"-territory atmosphere? I'm somewhat indifferent. Your mileage may vary.

Very good if you like the drunken-shallow-sorority-girls-gone-wild thing...especially on holidays.

Not good, if you don't.

Not bad for relaxing, though, either...if you're into the beach(I like mountains better, personally).

No personal experience, but from what I have heard, other than the great Spring Break, South Padre is overrated.

What a weird thing to say. Having lived in both California and Florida, I'd stack S. Padre up against any beach I've sen in the U.S. It has beautiful white sand. If you're talking Spring Break, it's a huge drunken debauch. Personally, I prefer the summer when the crowds aren't there. Great fishing too. I pulled a 200+ lb tuna. And there's marlin, etc as well.

I have some friends who lived relatively close until a couple years ago, not sure why they have this opinion, but they do.
