Seneca Niagara Trip Report
 

I have a wedding this weekend in the area, so I stopped by the Seneca Niagara casino for 6 hours. The casino is located on the American side. I decided to go there (as opposed to Casino Niagara) based on other trip reports and reviews.

At 12:30 PM, they were spreading:
2/4, 3/6, and 4/8 LHE
1/2 NLHE (40 min /100 max)
2/5 NLHE (100 min / 200 max)
5/10 NLHE (200 min / 500 max)

While I was there they started a 3/6 O/8 game

They also spread a 15/30 LHE game on Mondays.

I first got sat in a 2/5 NLHE game, and it was fairly boring. Not too much action. Two older fellows were stations, but they were getting run over. I doubled up to 380 with middle set on K83r flop. The dealers were very friendly, especially to the regulars (!?). I was the only one out of ten at the table that the dealers didn't know on a first name basis. They weren't particularly good compared to most casino dealers I've seen (with respect to speed and pitch), but they knew what they were doing.

After an hour at the 2/5 game, I got called to the "main game" - the 5/10 NLHE. There was one guy in the 5 seat throwing the party. He had about 3500 in front of him, mostly bills. He was calling with any two cards, except if they were far apart and unsuited. He occasionally raised preflop. He would frequently shove with anything better than bottom pair. He had the target on his head. I was put in the 8 seat.

During one of the first few hands I see, two older gents who know each other get involved in a pot. On the river, guy A bets, guy B shoves, and guy A calls. B has the nuts and busts A. Guy A rebuys, muttering about bad cards, etc., and Guy B apologizes to Guy A and says he didn't want to hurt him. The response to that is "Yeah, it's obvious you didn't want to hurt me, that's why you went all-in!"

A few hands in I limp UTG with TT, one limper with AT, another limper, and the big stack OTB calls with AJ. I check the AT3r flop, and the next thing I know everyone's chips are in the middle. The board went runner-runner bricks, and I scoop the main pot (15-ish). Stole a few pots whenever the big stack folded preflop, and ended the session +1700. Not too shabby.

Some observations:
- I don't like the chips there. The inside party of the design has too much white, so I have to give the chip more than just a passing glance to determine its value (because they look similar to each other)

-The 2/5 NLHE game doesn't seem playable to me. First, the buy-in is capped at 200, and the drop is 3 on the flop (!). Then an additional 1 at 40.

-The 5/10 game has a 5/ half-hour charge.

-I haven't taken my game to the level of bluff-calling with 9-high. Most of the other players were already there.

-The dealers would occasionally forget (?) to verify the amount of a bet. If a person shoved a stack without declaring an amount, the dealer just eyeballed it. Sometimes they were incorrect. I could see trouble brewing if that happened with a stack of green.

-There was the occasional softplay when two regulars got heads-up. I lost a lot of respect I had for the two guys who seemed like good players once I saw them do that.

Overall, it was a lot better than I thought it would be, and I might head back there on Sunday on the way to the airport, depending on how the recovery from Saturday goes.

Ahh so many B&Ms to visit so little time. Nice report, I like how you listed each and every game they had running.

Try playing 2-4 limit with a $3 drop on the flop. Especially when the game gets down to six or seven-handed and they won't lower the rake until the table is down to five.

Although the play is usually so atrocious that the rake isn't a huge killer unless the table is full of players who are somewhat selective preflop. The hands where two people see a flop in an raised pot and then the PFR wins with a flop bet are brutal. Gotta love that $1 profit.

I have only been there once and had 3 hrs on a Sat night and got a quick seat at 1/2 NL. It was the worst play I've ever seen - A preflop raise might limit it to 4 or 5 seeing a flop, otherwise it was 7 or 8. I had to wait for cards and finally doubled up when top set bested an overpair.

In general, I enjoyed myself and really throught the atmosphere was nice. when I have more time, I'm going to play a nice, long session up there.
