I feel like a terrible person...
 

I just told my gf (of 4 years) that things weren't working out.

She is one of the nicest people ever.

I feel like a giant asshole right now.

However it had to be done. I wasn't really happy in the relationship anymore.

I don't know why I'm telling you OOTiots this.

It sucks to hurt people you care about, of course you should feel bad, even though it was the right thing to do.

Did the same thing a couple months ago in a 3.5 year relationship. Long distance, college, blah blah blah... you're doing the right thing, for both of you. It's not fair to her in the long run to stay in a relationship that just aint right for you.

It's hard to quantify exactly. I think it's mainly that we've sort of become different people since 4 years ago. We've been fighting a lot lately, and basically I came to the realization that I wasn't happy being in the relationship currently.

It wasn't about anyone else, if that's what you're wondering.

No the thought never crossed my mind that infidelity was on the cards, I just find it interesting because 4 years is a long time, narrowing down the problem(s) should be a task undertaken (either in private or public) to ensure you are not 'folding when you should be calling'.

Eh, even if it was +ev, I think that it's probably more like a tournament in which you might pass up close edges.

Couples counseling is often +EV. You've got a lot invested in this pot, and it costs relatively little in time or money to see one more card.
