What are the odds after a deal that AA and KK are dealt?

I have been playing at Party Poker for a couple of weeks mainly in the no limit games. I have seen the KK and AA dealt in the same hand several times now. It seems to be happening more than random luck. Last night I got stung going all in with KK. I have probably played approximatley 3000 hands and have seen it at least 5 times now.

Sounds like a question for the probability forum.

Lets see.. 1 in 220 that you will get KK, and then ABOUT 9 in 220 that someone else will get AA in a 10 handed game. Multiply those together for the odds of both happening at once. That would be 9 in 48,400, or about 1/5300. I think that is correct, but don't hold me to it.

So if you infact have seen it 5 in 3000 times then I think it is a bit unordinary, but your sample is no where large enough to be reliable. Hope this helps.

The odds are the same as they were three days ago when this was asked. The search function is very good on this site.

If you receive KK and worry that you will be up against AA, the odds are about 5000 - 1 that you will get KK and be up against AA. FWIW, I have 50,000 hands in my poker tracker, and just looked at the KK - AA matchup and I have run my KK into AA eight times. I would swear it is more, but it is not. I also outdrew the AA hand twice.

This is a bit misleading. Before the hand is dealt, the odds are 5000 to 1 that you will be dealt KK and someone else will be dealt AA.

If you are already dealt the KK, the odds are not 5000 to 1 against someone else having AA.

yeah but the odds of KK being dealt in the same hand as AA is different from KK being dealt to YOU in the same hand as AA. you will see it more often than 1/5000, because obvioulsy most of the time you are not involved in such a showdown.

KK vs. AA 5 times in 3000 hands is a little bit below expectation at a full table. The probability that at least one player will get KK and at least one player will get AA is 82,801 / 41,807,675, or about 1/505.

If I have KK what are the chances I\'ll run into AA?

Is it (4/50*3/49) * 9 players = 1 in 22.7?

Close. That is the average number of AA hands you encounter. That is greater than the probability of encountering AA because it double-counts the possibility of running into two players with AA. The probability of that is (9 choose 2)/(50 choose 4). The probability that you run into at least one player with AA is 9*(4/50)*(3/49) - 36/230,300 = 1 in 22.8.
