Ok, we know that the 2005 World Series was a success for the casino;

How is it doing on ESPN? I would venture to say that the great success of the WSOP this year was due to last years ESPN coverage. Would anyone here care to tell us how well the 2006 will series go over?

I would imagine we've reached the high point as far as # of entrants is considered.... I would estimate anywhere from between 4k-5k main event entrants next year

heard ratings were down something like 15%. but those were the circuit event one hr ones. even down 15% i think espn is still happy with the ratings not sure on that though.
poker interest unless they can change the tv coverage a bit probably has peaked. but i assume attendance will be pretty good cause it has quite a bit of popularity among young people.

As dumb said, ratings are down slightly (at least that's what I've read) - but I think ESPN is still happy on the whole, as the WSOP shows cost very little to produce and can be repeated ad nauseum.

i'm sure the ratings will be pretty high when the main event airs. i know a lot of people who watch the main event only.

And while ratings may be down, ESPN has had even more WSOP content this year, so the extra shows have made up for any ratings drop.

i think the main event is scheduled to take about two weeks next yr. I assume at least some percentage of the field as a real job so this could keep attendance down a bit. you could probably be there a week and not make the money

Even if ratings are down, that doesn't mean people are playing less. I watch a lot less poker on TV than I used to, but still play the same amount.

I anticipate the field to be larger next year, but not the huge growth of the last few years -- maybe it will only grow my 1,000 players, I can't imagine that it will shrink next year.

I don't think it will shrink either. With online poker making it really easy to run sats I bet it will still increase a large amount. Plus I'll be there, so that's at least one more player, assuming everyone comes back.

Once you pop, you can't stop, isn't that what they say about the WSOP? Something like that...regardless, more people are coming of age and winning entries from sats than are dying or running out of money .

I wish it would shrink though, 1500 players is plenty...

And, then it would have only about a $3.5 million first prize.
