Stud with no ante?!

Prima pokers $0.25/$0.50 has a 25c bring in, but no ante. I disagree with this, because ante stealing is made almost redundant, and the pots are difficult to escalate. Not to mention the feeling i get that Stud with no ante is simply wrong.

I e-mailed the support for Pokerrakeback and they give me some nonsense about finding a private table with antes.

So what do you think about playing Stud with no antes? i hope to use this poll to persuade the powers that be to change the structure.

No ante ==> no action
No action ==> No profit

I agree. I am not a fan of no ante stud. But if I had to play, my god, my starting requirements would be stringent.

This is very similar to the 1-3 spread limit game with a $1 bring-in that they have at foxwoods...

I think the correct strategy in these games it to play very tight against a raise on 3rd, but to limp with many hands that do well in multi-way pots... This includes hands like (Q J) 9 with a very live two flush and live straight cards.. Since the people at these limits are so loose and generally calling stations, you get paid off when you hit.

Although this may seem too loose for the "structure", keep in mind you are probably the best player at the table, and although your immediate pot odds aren't good your implied odds are great against bad players.

I think there is a brief discussion of this in 7CS4AP under "Spread limit".

Paradise has $.50/$1.00 games with no ante as well, both hi and hi/lo.

I find no incentive to playing mediocre hands without an ante. Which isn't necessarily indicitive of a huge change in my game as I play tighter than most people. My concern is that the fish would tighten up and play better hands. And that is exactly what I don't want. BUT, that's just my opinion.

They added a 50 cent ante to the $1-3 game at Foxwoods. Actually made that game great.

I haven't looked at that game in the last few months, so maybe they got rid of it. Shame if they did, I wanted to play it with MRBAA in a few weeks for shi*s and giggles..

Re: Stud with no ante?!

Sorry I forgot to mention that this is pot limit stud, if that affects your decision.

And I am playing very tight.

Most pots are 3 or 4 hands with no raise, so there is only 75c in the pot on 4th, and a pot sized bet, which is needed to get any reasonable money in the middle, usually folds everyone out.

And there is no good reason to raise imo. With antes, and an ace showing, a raise could mean a pair of aces or an ante steal. With no ante, you're announcing that you have a big pair, everyone will fold and you'll collect 25c for your decent hand.
