Unmucked cards - Ruling?
 

Situation arose in a home game a while back.

Player A (dealer) wins a big pot, drags the pot over his holecards and buries them. He then passes the deck over to Player B to deal the next hand. After all the cards are out and betting has begun, Player A notices he never mucked his cards from the last hand. Ruling?

IMO, reshuffle and redeal the cards. Return all bets to the players and start the hand over.

Some will whine if they had good cards, but if the deck is not legal, how could any of the hands be considered legal?

Concur with previous poster. The deck is not full and should void the hand. I would return all bets and replay the hand.

From Roberts Rules of Poker:

"One or more cards missing from the deck does not invalidate the results of a hand."

But what about Player A? He now has more information than the other players involved in this hand (he knows what those other two cards are and no one else does). Probably should have indicated that A won the previous hand without showdown

Did you read any of the responses to your post? They are telling you to stop the current hand, give everybody their bets back, and redeal.

One would think that's the case. Maybe I misread the post to which I replied, and maybe I misunderstand Robert's rules. Roberts seems to say to proceed with the hand regardless of the two unmucked cards. This seems incorrect to me.

Following Roberts rules, you could just show the two cards face up to everyone and continue with the hand in progress.

To me it seems very similar to when someone trys to muck their cards preflop and one or both of the cards end up flying face up. The dealer just shows the card to everyone and play continues as normal.

play with TWO, differently colored decks. a freshly shuffeled deck can be at the ready as soon as a hand concludes
