Rough double suckout or bad push PF?

Don't know if there's much I could have done with this hand, but it's been bugging me all week. Last weekend played some live 2/5 NL ($200 max). Good, fairly aggressive table overall, & after about 2-3 hours I was slightly ahead. Then...

In MP with A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], I raise to $20 (standard for this table). Folded around to button, who reraises to $65. I put him on a middle pocket pair. Then BB goes all-in for her last 90. I call (should I have pushed here?), and button then goes all-in (about $225, slightly less than me). I call. Button shows 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]; BB has J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

The result, however, was painful:

<font color="white"> </font>
Flop: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Turn: J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (1st gut punch)
River: 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2nd gut punch for side pot)
<font color="black"> </font>
So...other than possibly pushing after BB went all-in, did I do the right thing here? Thanks.

TF

the more i think about it, the more AQ seems like a less than premium hand.

you're in coinflips with underpairs, crushed by QQ, KK, AA and AK.

i probably would have folded preflop.

Well, the real mistake is the call in the first place. You are only a coinflip against the first push making you 38% if you get called behind. I might be weak but I think AQ is too often dominated to be calling an all in with since there is alway7s a good likelihood that your opponent(s) are holding QQ, AK or AA all of which you are all but dead against.

Fold to the raises. You are probably facing AK and an underpair - in which case your money is going in bad. However, you could easily be facing a dominating hand (QQ, KK, AA) and an underpair/AK as well, which is even worse.

Does the player on the button re-raise often? How does he play from that position? Is the BB a tight player?

I'd fold. The chance of a pair or two overcards similar to your own being out there is pretty good (unless these two villains are complete friggin' donks). I am not committing the majority of my money pre-flop on AQs, especially after the way the two players acted.

I agree with the other posters. I would fold to the reraise. Unless you have a good read and think that the players are LAG I prob wouldnt call even with AKo.

mainly because I am not about to risk my stack to a coin flip

I fold AQ to a reraise, and especially to a re-raise + an all-in 3-bet. At best, you are behind a lower pocket pair. At worst, you are WAYYYYYY behind a high pocket pair or AK. You're only real hope is to get a flush or broadway by the river if you're going all in preflop 3-betting (a very low percentage shot).

slightly behind JJ, no hearts
Ah Qh 785191 45.86 920695 53.77 6418 0.37 0.460
Jc Jd 920695 53.77 785191 45.86 6418 0.37 0.540

worse vs JJ, one heart
Ah Qh 779059 45.50 925434 54.05 7811 0.46 0.457
Jd Jh 925434 54.05 779059 45.50 7811 0.46 0.543

hideous vs QQ or KK or AA
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ah Qh 576259 33.65 1114783 65.10 21262 1.24 0.343
Qs Qc 1114783 65.10 576259 33.65 21262 1.24 0.657

cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ah Qh 546637 31.92 1158934 67.68 6733 0.39 0.321
Kc Kd 1158934 67.68 546637 31.92 6733 0.39 0.679

cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ah Qh 204050 11.92 1486939 86.84 21315 1.24 0.125
Ac Ad 1486939 86.84 204050 11.92 21315 1.24 0.875

and not so good vs AK, either
cards win %win lose %lose tie %tie EV
Ah Qh 480500 28.06 1156301 67.53 75503 4.41 0.303
Kc Ad 1156301 67.53 480500 28.06 75503 4.41 0.697

So, I'd say FOLD to all the re-rerasing preflop.

This is a very easy fold preflop.

AQ is a good hand, AQs is slightly better. Both of these hands, like AK are drawing hands. Their value comes from the fact that they are easy to fold on the flop when you miss. You are not in a coin-flip with any pair, you are a dog. AK is a dog to any pair. I would not stand any pressure with this type of hand.
