Respect the L/RR with no read?

Villian is completing his first orbit at the table.

Was I right in giving him credit for a big pair with the limp-reraise pre-flop? I have no reason to suspect he's a maniac. Is this the default play or should I have popped somewhere along the way?

4-bet preflop. Raise the flop. Then when he keeps on firing, maybe you give him respect.

Re: Respect the L/RR with no read?

(disclaimer! - I did not sort by position of the LRRer and these only include hands that were shown. The cards shown issue is important in my opinion, but I think it makes these stats stronger; quality hands see more showdowns. The position issue obviously works the other way.)

In the digging I did I found that: The LRRer had AA-QQ or AK about 40% of the time. The LRRer had some sort of hand about 30% of the time. The rest of the time the LRRer had a hand I would pre-select fold with on the button.

With no read at all, I cap it and go from there.

I would put in another raise somewhere -- either preflop or on the flop or turn.

Cap preflop, raise flop. We're either behind drawing to 2 outs, he's behind drawing to 6 outs or 3 outs with AK or a big A, or he's drawing at 2 outs with a weaker pair. (I assume he doesn't have a 6). If he re-raises on flop, we slow down, otherwise we pummel him. BTW, if we cap preflop, he probably checks to us on flop unless he's got aces or kings, unless he's tricky, and then we are in control...

Either raise the flop or the river.
