How bad was this?

Villian just sat down maybe 10 hands ago so no read.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (9 handed) converter

Hero ($30.90)
CO ($24.40)
Button ($33.55)
SB ($8.95)
BB ($10.35)
UTG ($28)
UTG+1 ($29.90)
MP1 ($16.05)
MP2 ($4.45)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls $0.25, 2 folds, Hero calls $0.25, CO calls $0.25, 1 fold, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.25) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero checks, CO bets $1, SB folds, BB folds, UTG+1 calls $1, Hero raises to $4, CO folds, UTG+1 raises to $7, Hero calls $3.

Turn: ($16.25) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
UTG+1 bets $3, Hero raises to $23.65

What do you think? Is this a situation where I'll only get called when I'm crushed? Or will a worse hand call often enough to make this ok?

I'd call the turn and try to get to a cheap showdown at this point. Unless he's loose or has JT (remember he's UTG+1 so chances are greater that he has a solid holding), you're quite possibly beat. He could have a flush draw, as well, which would explain the donky turn bet but I would just take the chance on that and call the turn.

On the other hand, his flop call/raise is bizarre. It doesn't represent flush draw, that's for sure. I'm fairly sure you're beat... so again, just try to get to showdown cheap (I'm not sure that folding the flop raise is awful, either)

Two options as I see it:

-Call turn and and any reasonable river bet.
-Min-raise turn and hope to get showdown for free (fold to any re-raise obviously)

Re: How bad was this?

Villian's line was really bizarre so I wasn't sure what to put him on. A better J makes alot of sense but given the flush draw he should want to protect his hand. It would be a very odd line for a flush draw to take, I would expect a larger raise. A horribly misplayed overpair ?? FWIW I would take the line I took with a flush draw or trips though I doubt villian knows this. I should have included this in OP but I was ~80 certain CO would bet when I checked the flop.

a fullhouse isn't worried about protecting his hand.

as it is, i call and see a cheap showdown.

I don't think I have the option of a cheap showdown. If he does indeed have me beat I would expect his river bet to be at least half my stack, in which case it's push or fold. If he's playing a weak J he may make another smallish bet but then I lose value when I'm ahead. And as I said I had no read , villian could very well be the type to play any face. JMO
