Why is this McCain\'s current pet issue?

Anyone have any insight why McCain is so interested in a National Boxing Commission? I don't get it. Admittedly, I'm not a huge boxing fan, but why is this even being discussed in Congress?

I really like McCain. I have a feeling he is setting himself up for a run for presidency. He is also standing up against the current administration.

One major issue he is addressing right now is Baseball and Steroid use.

He also has stated recently that he has no confidence in Donald 'Duck' Rumsfeld.

Great question, elwood! And why is baseball being discussed? I think McCain is a complete jackass though. He's a power-hungry, big-government socialist disguised as a Republican. And I think he just picks issues he thinks will get his name in the press.

So you think it's a good thing that the U.S. Congress wastes its time on unimportant issues like this that really shouldn't have anything at all to do with the federal government?

I don't get the baseball thing either. Steroid use alone is arguably a federal issue (I'm sure there are some that would disagree), but trying to regulate steroid use in one industry (baseball) is silly.

Right, but it's already illegal so why is Congress involved? Shouldn't it now be up to law enforcement?

I guessed I shouldn't have phrased it like that. I don't care about that issue. One of the reasons I like him is because he can work with both sides of the isle. He isn't subject to partisan politics as much as the others.

You're not getting an argument from me.

He does work both sides, but only seems to choose issues that don't matter or where he can make a name for himself personally. And most of the time he just seems to be pushing for government intervention in the wrong places IMO.

Actually, MLB is one of the few businesses (If not the ONLY business) to have an official anti-trust exemption so it is the Federal Govt's business what goes on in baseball. Not saying I agree with it, just explaining the Senators rationale.

Also, McCain is a huge boxing fan and has thus been involved with the regulation of the sport in the past as well.
