Can Process Solve Problems?
 

I am leading a massive healthcare project for a samll consulting firm at one of the larget healthcare companies in the country. The healthcare company uses some of the best process models in the world - RUP, 6 Sigma, etc. They are experts in project management from a formalized process standpoint.

The problem is that they cant solve a damn thing and the project was in serious trouble. Their day-to-day business processes sucked as well. However, it took me and my team 1 week to pretty much solve all the problems by using a very unstructured and creative approach. We didnt analyze. We created.

It got me thinking - can process really solve problems or does it take creativity and brilliance to solve hard problems? Is using process to solve problems a crutch of the weak and uninspired? Does it differ by type of problems?

You need to define more clearly what you mean by a "problem".
