When continuation bets fail

I like continuation bets as they make me a lot of money.
However, they sometimes get me into trouble.

It usually goes like this:
I raise 4xbb preflop with AK.
One or two callers.
Flop comes Qxx.
I bet the pot.
One caller.
Turn is a blank, I bet 3/4 pot.
Call.
By the river there are no obvious made flushes or straigths,
so I bet 3/4 again or I check and fold to a bet from villain.

Should I start giving up more often on the turn?
How do you play it in these situations when you are up against a:
a) LAG
b) LP
c) TP
d) TA

I play 25nl 6-max, so we will assume villain is bad to average.
And lets assume stack sizes are the same.
Think I could save a lot of bets if I could get these situations right.

Any suggestions?

give up on the turn. Dont use continuation bets that much either unless you are against a known rock. People are just too crazy there.

Re: When continuation bets fail

For the first time in my life, I mustered the courage to make a continuation bet on a turn when I missed everything after making a continuaton bet on a flop that missed everything which villain cold-called.

Result: Villain folded.

The sample size is excedingly small, however.

Usually I give up after the flop and will check-fold or check-call if the bet is innocuous enough and I have an out or overs or something.

i find that at those low limits, there's an amazing number of players who call on the flop with anything then routinely fold on the turn to any bet, even if the bet is about the same amount as the flop bet or just a little bigger.

Normally if I have absolutely nothing, I give up on the turn, but if I do have something (as little as bottom pair or a gutshot) I'll bet again, but not a real big bet. This play won't work against everyone though, only the weak-passive types (and there's lots of those at low limits)
