River Overbet into a Tricky player (4 handed)

Reads: Villain raises fairly liberally pre-flop, and has been taking down almost every pot when he does. Post-flop, he is a tricky, but thinking TAGish player.

Seat 0 is at seat 0 with $91.50.
Hero is at seat 1 with $90.60.
Villain is at seat 3 with $95.80.
Seat 4 is at seat 4 with $34.70 (sitting out).
Seat 5 is at seat 5 with $17.10.
The button is at seat 5.

Seat 0 posts the small blind of $.50.
Hero posts the big blind of $1.

Hero: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Pre-flop:

Villain raises to $3.50.
Seat 5 (button) folds.
Seat 0 (SB) folds.
Hero (BB) calls.

Pot = $7.50
Flop (board: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]):

Hero checks.
Villain bets $5.50.
Hero calls.

(Any comments here? A raise is better maybe?)

Pot = $18.50
Turn (board: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]):

Hero checks.
Villain checks.

(Better to stop and go here?)

Pot = $18.50
River (board: A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]):

Hero goes all-in for $81.60.

if he is good, he'll probably put you on 9T and fold.

I prefer a valuebet on the river.

No way a thinking player may put me on a bluff and call with weakish Ace?

When you say villain is "fairly liberal" pre-flop, does that mean he's loose? Because calling with an often dominated hand like A7o out of position is fairly dangerous.

I dont mind the flat call on the flop, but he's going to give you credit for having an least an ace now. Lead the turn.

Value bet the river. He checked the turn and showed weakness. 1/2 to 3/4 pot is about right if he wants to showdown an ace.

Thinking players pick their spots. This is not a good spot for him so most hands calling your overbet are better than yours.

I did end up getting called; he spiked a 2 on the river and paid me off with Aces and deuces. Perhaps this was the only hand I'm beating that he calls with; I guess thats what I'm trying to figure out.
