Bottom set facing all in

Villian seemed solid although this was fairly early in my time at the table. Over 203 hands he ended up 23/3.4/1.4

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $1.00 BB (9 handed) converter

CO ($241.10)
Button ($45.70)
SB ($105.50)
BB ($102.30)
UTG ($31.60)
UTG+1 ($98.50)
Hero ($175.30)
MP2 ($35)
MP3 ($75.05)

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with 3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
UTG calls $1, UTG+1 calls $1, Hero calls $1, 1 fold, MP3 calls $1, 1 fold, Button raises to $3, 1 fold, BB calls $2, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls $2, Hero calls $2, MP3 calls $2.

Flop: ($16.50) 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
BB bets $3, UTG+1 folds, Hero raises to $9, MP3 folds, Button folds, BB calls $6.

Turn: ($34.50) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $32, BB raises to $90.3, Hero calls $58.30.

River: ($215.10) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)

Final Pot: $215.10

First off is my raise to small on the flop? Maybe more like $15. Then does anyone find a fold on the turn? Overpair probably reraises pf. 2 pair seems unlikely on this board if we consider the villian unlikely to make any unreasonable calls pf.

Calls at the 8high flop, pushes a PSB at the 10.

Looks like his 10s caught a set on the turn.

Raise pot on flop. I would've called turn, but I can't really see many hands that play this way that you beat !? I think TT plays this way, and you can see the other sets play this way too (88 and 44). I suppose something like A8 of hearts is also possible. Looks to me like a fold on the turn is correct, but in practice I probably wouldn't be able to find that fold. (of course if you raised more on the flop, pot would be bigger, if you potted the turn then you'd be almost all-in and have to call).

Get a better rythym to the sizing of your bets. $9 on the flop and then $32 on the turn is off-kilter. $15 or so is good on the flop raise. As played, this would be a monster laydown, and I'm not sure I would or could do it. You will see an overpair here enough to call and have it be +EV probably.

aj - Villain is "solid" but doesn't reraise preflop in a 6-way pot with JJ-AA ? Seems unlikely.

I guess I included 99 in that overpair comment (overpair to the flop). JJ and QQ, especially JJ, don't always reraise that action preflop OOP.

It looks to me like it entirely depends on whether you think he can have AA-JJ here. If his range is QQ-TT,88,44,Ah8h, you're 56% to win and you have to call. If you take out the QQ and JJ, you're 10% to win and have to fold. The just-call on the flop and check-raise on the turn sure would be weird for QQ and JJ, they look a lot more like a set to me. If he was more of a donk I'd be inclined to add in some "wtf" hands (where you call and he turns over AK or 99 and you go "wtf") which give you a free extra 10% chance of winning, but his stats don't look like that.

My gut tells me that it is a monster fold. You "announced" a hand on the flop. The turn bet is in line with the flop. Villian must be aware that you might hold a set and that you would fold overpairs and two pair to a all in. I would not have managed to fold in the head of the battle but from a distance...

Chris.
