Who are the best posters to search for
I have steadily tried to build my bankroll (~3000) but I feel like I have a lot of leaks in my game and have a lot of room to improve especially before I move to the 50s. I have focused on using the search to look at previous posts by people who give good insight on the forum. Heres who I have ....curtains, strassa2, irieguy, citanul, raptor517, bonafonex. I am curious as to whom you think I should also search for for good posters to learn from.

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
There are a number of "favourites" and "wisdom of 2+2" threads around, which link some VERY educational threads and posts.
I would add Ed Miller and Adanthar to that list - can't think of others specifically just now. |
Re: Who are the best posters to search for
Unarmed.

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
didn't shadow post a link to the good stuff ??
The new guys come in waves. They all think that they are good so beware of posts that sound authoratative but are actually nonsense. -- tjh |

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
Unarmed, Bones, Pergesu, splashpot, tigerite and Scuba Chuck are all on my "must read everything they post" list.

"$11-I bluff reraise the river on a five-flush board with T-high after a delayed action triple-barrel double-horizontal float equity maneuver" - Pergesu
I just want to see how fancy you can get. <3 |
Re: Who are the best posters to search for
Save your time for searching posts from me. I don't think I've ever gave quality responses compared to others on your list. most of my discussions are off the board. oh yeah, im also only mediocre

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
Actually I think he means me, but I've been around for a year and think I'm just 'decent'??

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
I strongly recommend ignoring all of my posts.

Actually I think he means me, but I've been around for a year and think I'm just 'decent'?? [/ QUOTE ] I do not think that I mean either of you... I just remembered when I was a noob. After I learned a little bit I started to realize that some of these posters do not know what they are talking about. They do not last for long but a new wave comes along to replace them. Seems like we have a new group of "experts" as of late. The original poster has the right idea. If you want to learn from this forum look for a respected poster and pay attention to what they have to say. I remember when I first joined a whole series of posts from Raptor. I think he was new then and he seemed to play more hands and be more aggressive than most. Those threads were very worthwhile. Although I did not know a bubble from a button so anything would have helped. Fiery_Justice ?? I think his stuff is good. -- tjh |

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
Wow.....so far the advice in this thread is awful IMO.
If you want to work on postflop....read Unarmed's oldish posts.....and most things Adanthar/Phil Van Sexton/Irieguy say about post flop (v old possibly). If you want to 'quiz' yourself on STT math play read curtains' 123523141235 posts. Also read ChrisV who generally provides more reasoning and analysis but doesn't touch on the sheer amount of hands curtains does. If you want real initial fundamental strategy considerations....ready the oldies by PrayingMantis and Easty. I don't think too many of the very recent posters offer the most helpful advice and such as the older posts...there are reasons for this I won't go into but that doesn't mean that recent threads aren't helpful or good....I just don't think there is the same level of explanation and 'good' thinking. Re: Who are the best posters to search for

[/ QUOTE ] this is a dangerous area...the highest ROI guys that post here are probably the most dangerous to read because of the maxim 'a little information is a dangerous thing' reading Raptor, GigaBet, Fiery or others like this may leave you thinking you know what it is that you've just 'learned' but instead it will have you donking off money on way too fancy plays at lower levels where the stuff doesn't even apply. For a n00b i'd suggest most anything Curtains has ever posted, Irieguy variance posts, NOTHING BY GIGABET, all of Scuba_Chuck's hands posts and ya read that shadow's list a few hundred times. gl |
Re: Who are the best posters to search for
What, do I have some kind of low ROI so that Im still safe for the noobs? |

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
My 2c.
Tigerite - If you're looking at moving up to 55's, this is probably a good place to start. Mostly posts actual poker content, lots of recent posts about 55's and since he recently moved up to the 100's he obviously beat the 55's pretty solid. ChrisV - Hasn't posted much recently but that's what archives are for. Though he plays well above the 55 level he has offered advice to players at all levels. What I really like about his posts is that not only is his advice excellent but he explains his thoughts very clearly and concisely. If I had to pick one poster who I thought would make a great teacher, it would be him. Unarmed - If you really want to get good ... very thorough analysis at times, gets into situational analysis at a level I suspect most players, even winning ones do not even get close to when multi tabling. If you want insight into how a way above average player at the 100's thinks and just how many different things there sometimes are to consider in a given situation, he's your man. |

Re: Who are the best posters to search for
This dates me but I learned most of what I know from Greg Raymer for practical strategy concepts and how to think about a hand while you're playing it. I don't even think there was a separate STT/MTT forum back then, just "Tournament Poker" or something like that. Bozeman was the guy for the deeper math intensive concepts for after-hours study.
Slightly less prehistorically, ChrisV always seemed to be spot on and able to explain his reasoning. eastbay |
