Going to Vegas, argggh!

Hey,

Don't know if its the right place to post this but basically looking for some inputs here. Here's the deal, i'm somewhat a beginner online poker player who started about 4 months ago with 50$ in party poker. I managed to play around 40K hands so far mostly in 0.50/1, 1/2 and 2/4 and built a 2000$ bankroll. I have now around 600$ left due to a recent trip..

The thing is, my girlfriend is paying us a trip to Vegas by the end of January and I was shocked ! She kinda noticed my addiction to online poker and thought I might enjoy such a ride, which can't be more true!

I know basically nothing about Vegas. I'm Canadian and don't have a clue how it works there! I'm basically looking to play some live hold'em there but have no clue at all what are the stakes available and where are the good rooms and stuff like that! Of course, I probably don't have the bankroll for that but I don't mind playing 300-400$ and losing it... I'm basically looking for a good experience and just want to know if some people here can point me to a start...!

thanks!

.fs.

I would suggest you come to the MGM and try your hand at the 1/2 or 2/5 NL game. Let me know when you will be here and I will meet you there.

Oh, and don't forget the $600.

I found this post as I was about to post one of my own about going to Vegas. I'm leaving tomorrow for some New Years festivities, debauchery, and drunken philandering.

Personally, I'm looking for a few good places to check out some stud games.

I recommend MGM for anyone looking to play no limit. nice room, great beer selection, and very soft 2/4 and 4/8 games.

note to op: 2/4 is the lowest limit game you will find on the strip.

You know the OP is from Canada right? That 600 is worth like $50 bucks U.S.

Thank god they screwed up ion Iraq?

If your a canadian who plays online poker the increase in the canadaian dollar vs the US dollar is a disaster. I almost breakdown and cry everytime in need to exchange currency.

I miss the days when I got a 50% bonus whenever I cashed out.

I have lots of advice for you--I just took my 22-year-old daughterto Vegas for some beginner poker. We stayed downtown and I had her sit in on a lesson at Golden Nugget. They do them every weekday at 10 a.m. and the guy teaching the classes is really, really good. It's a good idea to sit in on a class if you have no B & M experience. You can then just buy in right at that table and play with the other beginners. It's a $2-$4 limit table. If you opt to stay downtown, btw, that's a great place to stay, but if you want cheap, try the Plaza. They also have a decent poker room, but take the lesson at the Nugget first. Call the Plaza poker room and ask them about their poker room rate--how much it is, how many hours per day to qualify, etc.

If you want to stay on the strip, I recommend Imperial Palace. They have poker lessons every morning, I believe, at 11 a.m. The poker room isn't fancy, but they comp at $3/hour and they always have food and coffee out. It's also a good place for a beginner to stay/play.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
