30% is way too high, way too high for a cash game. You are probably playing picture cards out of position, this is bad.

Re: Play Analysis Please

also 791 hands is pretty useless as far as making generlisations about one's play. as a rule of thumb 500 SNGs is a good indicator of figuring out if one is a winning player. so over this number of SNGs we can get an idea if you're seeing too many flops, etc

SNG???

Re: Play Analysis Please

Thanks for the genuine reply. The other replys were not the sort of replies I was led to believe I would get on this forum. Everyone begins at the begining. Just because you have more experience or knowledge does not mean it is ok to mock or theow scorn.

Very Dissapointing.

Me.

Why? Be helpful and explain. If I don't know what is wrong with what I said how can I learn or improve?

Did I? Again a bit more info would be helpful? Are you saying what the other said? Not enough hands?

Yeah. 791 hands = 25 or so SNGs?

That's nowhere near a signifigant sample size, plus this is pretty meaningless as play changes throughout the SNG, most signifigantly from L3-L4, and 4 handed to 3 handed.

OK Thanks.

I'll resubmit when I hit a LOT more hands.

How many Sit'nGos (I worked it out!!) do I need for analysis? 500?? I'd like to try to improve WAY before I play 500 SnG's!!!

Can I change the question slightly then.

What sort of percentages should I be aiming for? What would a good profile look like?

Thanks again.

Me.

Re: Play Analysis Please

Remember that some stats, like flops seen, should be different at different levels of the game.
Play tight early, aggressive late and post more specific hand questions, particuarly four handed, or if you exit early with a non AA/KK hand.

[/ QUOTE ]Teh issue isn't your improvement. The issue is the relevance of statistics at a small level. I'll put it this way: I recently downloaded the infamous SNG Spreadsheet and started tracking my games. I happened to win the first one I played. If I posted about my 361% ROI figure, I would be mocked. Or beaten. Yeah, probably the latter.

Any numbers are bound to fluctuate. You have to have a significant sample size before you can take anything meaningful from stats.

You don't have to play 500 SNGs before you get better. You can play your second SNg better than your first and move from there - it's just silly took look at stats.

So what do you look at? Hands.

Post individual hands that were critical in a tournament. Critical to your winning or losing. Allow the people here to either praise or bury your play. They will tell you what you did right and wrong and once in a while, they'll even tell you why those decisions were right or wrong if you ask nicely.

Learn from every hand you play to get better. Stats don't mean crap until you've done enough to have definitive patterns in the stats.

Another thing: Grow thicker skin.

Finally, I shall contradict what I said by making one evaluation on the stats: You are seeing way too many flops. While it is possible that you are just getting amazing cards and the good fortine to be in unraised pots in the blinds constantly, more likely you're doing what every newbie does - fishing and trying to see flops. Every time your weak Ace caught two pairs and won a big hand reenforced this behavior, no doubt, but such luck runs out.

Simply put: If those stats are a good reflection of your play given the usual mixture of good hands and bad, then you will lose money by the time you get to 500 SNGs.

Good luck.

Re: Play Analysis Please

now you made me feel bad. dont post your stats on how you played.. post hands that your not sure of . post hands that might be improved. like you i just started puting my games in the book. after you play 100 games you'll have a number. keep reading and posting here. the next 100 should be a little better. then read here and post. talk to friends read HH.. talk . and play 100 more hands.. after you learn a lot of basics play another 100 then 1000.. keep reading thinking about your game..

i think this is how you do it. GL

Thanks, I appreticate the help!!

I obviously am not tracking my play enough. And not playing enough. I have played more than 700 hands but I reset the counter (on the site I play) after I applied some strategies I learned and I wanted to see how they looked. My initial stats (based on no logic at all!!) Were much worse. More flops, less folds etc.

I don't know if Poker Tracker supports the site I play most often (PaddyPowerPoker a skin of Viktor Chandler) but I need more details I think.

KQo and below, AJo and below, and QJs and below are all garbage hands in early levels that you're probably playing. Stop playing them.

Any reccommended software/sites to do that? Does the SNG spreadsheet (is that on 2+2 somewhere?) help with that?

I tend to play quite tight early on, and I don't play those hands. Well that's not quite true. I WAS playing that way and I was using the no-call only raise (4xBB) rule. I have lapsed into calling some hands like those above early on but I must break out of it.

What I need to learn is what hands I can introduce to my play as the levels increase and the players reduce.

This is especially true of 3 handed and HU. I used to find that I was always 4th, just outside the money. Then it was 3rd, now that I am reaching the money a lot more I find that I when I get to HU, I lose!! I go all-in to often.

But that's progress I suppose!!
