Online Poker For Linux?

Hi Everyone,
I was considering buying a new PC for at home with a Linux OS on it.

Just a brief scan has me believing all the Online Poker sites require you to download Windows code to play.

Anyone know if that's the rule or the exception?

Also, are the usual 56.6K dialup modems fast enough or is broadband of some sort more realistic?

Sincerely,
AA

Pokerroom has Java client that works on Linux. It's much better to have a broadband access if you are a serious player.

www.24hpoker.com uses java. I play at home using dialup, and that works fine.

If you know how to run java based programs, any java based poker client can be ran under Linux. All you need is a current JVM release and be able to execute a java program manually from the command line. PokerRoom.com uses a java applet, so all you need a web browser on your linux system, and you can run it fine. I also agree that a broadband connection is not "needed", but is a very good investment if you plan on playing for big money.

I think you are mistaken. From 24hr poker website:

System Requirements:
Windows 95, 98, NT4, 2000, ME or XP
166 MHz+ Pentium with at least 96 MB RAM
30 MB+ free disk space
Download time (Size: 7.48 MB)
Modem: About 20 min
Cable etc: < 3 min

Even though pokerroom's client is java-based it requires a windows platform (goofy but true).
