Ganpathy: bets 400
Hero: ?

Ganpathy's bet had me caught off guard since the pot was already 1500, and he was grossly underbetting 400 into it.

Edit: I had been at the table for maybe 15-20 hands and had not entered a single pot. I have 3093 behind.

What is your line? What do you make of Ganpathy's bet?

reraise to 1200. this is a typical bet from a villain, villain may actually have a hand or villain may be just trying to outplay you post flop (especially if he put you on AK). Hate to say it, but if he goes over the top of my raise, I give him credit for a hand and fold (god I hate being a donk).

Reraise to clarify the situation.

Ganpathy: bets 400
Hero: raises to 1200
Ganpathy: calls 800

Turn: [10[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]]
Ganpathy: checks
Hero: ?

I have 1893 left.

Though I did raise the flop, I think there are better lines, such as calling the flop and raising most turn cards. Thoughts?

Raise for Information?

(although this is about NL cash, it's a good read)

What is your image of Villain?

This could still be either an overpair or a guy who wanted to put a move on you and threw out a probe bet. At this point I would lean toward overcards, but no pair.

He is either inducing a bluff or giving up. Without a read on viillain it's a tough call.

Re: So I raised...

take the free card. not much he could have been drawing to with that flop. sounds like a pair or a badly played AK. The question is, how high is his pair (maybe he hit the 9 with a holding of A9 or such).

the problem with calling the flop and raising most turn cards is you'll have no idea of where you are at when he fires a bigger volley on turn and what happens if a 2, 3 or some other rag hit turn? not likely villain will believe it helped your hand. If you know the villain will check turn, then yes that might be a good plan to raise turn after a called flop. Sounds like your being results oriented thinking because 10 hit turn (an overcard to the 9 already out there).

Re: So I raised...

Good point, I should've clarified. If I called on the flop and he fired big on the turn, then I'd probably fold, since he'd be overextending himself if he didn't have 88 beat. I don't know what I do if he bets small again.

You have to raise that flop bet. You are probably ahead, but not by much. If you simply call, how do you play an overcard on the turn?

When he checks, I go ahead and shove. This is a couple of overs all the freakin' time.

Re: So I raised...

Check behind at this point.

Another option on the flop was just to smooth call and put the next difficult decision to him on the turn. Maybe you get to a showdown cheaply. Maybe he is afraid you're the one with a monster. I don't think the reraise to 1200 puts him to any real decision because he is getting 4:1 odds to call.
