Vicksburg, Mississippi poker

Anyone with any recent experience playing poker in the Vicksburg, MS casinos? I'm heading to Jackson, MS in a couple of weeks and was thinking of staying in a poker-friendly hotel/casino.

The only room in the area was on the Horizon/Rainbow riverboat IIRC. I believe it recently closed. You may well be out of luck.

Horizon and Rainbow casinos both have poker rooms. I've never played in either but both casinos are rather low-roller but I don't know if the poker rooms are the same. I doubt you'll find anything other than low-limit games except on weekends though.

Silver Star Casino in Philadelphia, MS, also has a poker room. It is about a 90 minute drive to the east of Jackson. You may be lucky enough to find games at a bit higher limit there. I'd expect the games at all three casinos to be relatively soft.

I believe the rooms in V'burg are closed. Silver Star in Philly is your best choice. They have been fairly busy since the Hurricane. You won't find much in the way of higher limit games (F/Sa there can be 6/12 or 10/20 games going) as its mainly 3/6 limit or 1/2 & 5/10 NL. Worth the drive. Several regulars make the drive from Jackson.

Sorry, Feelix, but I just saw this post.

The only game in town is at the Horizon since the small room at the Rainbow casino recently closed. It's a nice room that sits above the main casino. It's fairly quite with decent comps, but I here there isn't a lot of action except on the weekends. (The only time I've been.)

On weekends you can count on 2 or 3 tables of NL 1/2, 2/5, or 5/10, 3-6 Hold'em. I've seen some stud there, too, but I don't really play stud live, so I've never paid much attention.

There is more action in Philadelphia, Mississippi at the Silver Star Casino Poker Room, but that's 2 hours NE of Vicksburg and 1 hour NE of Jackson. Tunica is about 3 hours north.

Good luck,

Napawino

The best way to get to Tunica from Jackson is straight up I-55. Then, you would want to get off at Senatobia and cut across. I would go that route if you had a day off from work.
