Question about B&M etiquette...

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on the following...

After winning a monster pot, do you wait a certain amount of time before cashing out?

This happened to me tonight, but I really did have to catch my train (already been there for 5 hrs), so i played maybe four more hands and left before having to pay the charge for the next half hour.

People sighed and made comments like "oh man, taking all the money off the table" ( i was chip leader after the monster pot). I know the guy that I took the monster pot from wasn't pleased.

So, did I do something wrong y leaving so soon?

At a casino, leave whenever you want. I rack up a few hands before I go, and if I do win a monster pot on the end, I get no beef.

At a home game, different etiquette applies.

This was at a local B&M.

So what should I have done?

Cash out and leave.

Nothing wrong with what you did, if you needed to leave, you needed to leave. What are you supposed to do... sit around giving people a fair amount of time to win your money?

Leave. Why do you care what they think? It's your money now.

these people aren't your friends, these people are your atm... you're not at a home game, just don't forget to tip the dealer when you leave, it's good luck and that's good etiquette.

I hate people that drag monster pots and don't tip.

Think of it this way, if you left when you were down would they toke you some money so you could leave even?

I agree with all of the above: Cash out and leave when you wish or need to. It's most likely that the person whining at your table wouldn't have played those 4-5 extra hands you played.

Kaeser's post is particularly salient if you have any lingering doubts.

You can leave anytime you want. Leaving because you have to catch a train is a perfectly acceptable reason to leave. Leaving to lock up a win is a terrible reason to leave that has nothing at all to do with manners.
