60-120 at casino arizona

The reason i am posting this is because my friend says that this is a terrible move, however I disagree and I we need a 3rd party to even the conflict.

Players: Button: Loose / med. agressive
Sm. Blind: Loose / med. agressive

J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in the BB.

Action: Folded to button who raises, SB, 3 bets, I decided to cap. Is this the right play?

Perfect. Your cap better defines SB's and button's hand. If the button was stealing with cheese, then he may lay down facing two more back to him. Then, if given a favorable flop (overpair, etc) the SB still leads then you can raise the button out if he cold called preflop. By just calling preflop the SB will inevitably lead and if its a scary board you will be trapped between the two and may lay down the best hand fearing the button yet to act behind you. I think your preflop cap will make it less likely that either SB or button will make plays at you postflop since they know you are coming in strong, yes?

this post is kinda dumb... pretty obvious your friend is 100% clueless about holdem. just tell him that capping is right. if he wants to learn how to play then he can ask you why... if he wants to continue to play like the 100% horrible fish he is, whatevs.

With your description of the villains being loose/med. aggressive, and considering the button's steal position and the sb's isolation/re-steal position, I think it's a cap. You might knock out the button if he was raising with trash.

However, were the button a pretty tight player, I often just call to see if the button caps.

First, "terrible" is definitely not a term that I'd use to describe your pre-flop play. I think it's perfectly acceptable. However, since everyone seems all-too willing to call capping a no-brainer, I'll accept the role of devil's advocate:

I might just call, since you describe the button as loose and I assume he's not folding for another two very often. The reason I might play it this way is because I think this clearly is an instance where the pre-flop equity you lose can be more than made up for in post-flop deception. This is especially true if they are both loose AND aggressive. So on a bad flop, you'll lose less. A good flop, you'll win more. And with a great flop, you'll crush the begeesus out of them!
