77 in a big pot against a maniac

Villain is a true chipspewing maniac. We're talking 45/35/2.6. He plays a lot of raise or fold poker and obviously has a wide range of raising hands pf.

Party Poker 3.00/6.00 Hold'em (6 handed) link

Preflop: Hero is MP with 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
UTG calls, Hero raises, CO calls, 2 folds, BB 3-bets, UTG calls, Hero caps, CO calls, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (16.33 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
BB bets, UTG folds, Hero raises, CO folds, BB calls.

I raised the flop in hopes of getting CO to fold as the pot was big and he would likely have 6 live outs against my hand.

Turn: (10.17 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls.

River: (12.17 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: 12.17 BB.

Comments appreciated

Will he pay off a river bet with AJ-AK? If yes, I think you missed a value bet. If not, then this is good.

Why I didnt bet the river

I was afraid that w/the way I played it, he coudl be afraid his JJ or QQ might not be good so he won't bet it. Also he could have hit the on the flop as he could have JTs or ATs w/the way he plays. The 3rd reason I didnt bet is b/c he plays raise or fold poker a lot and will likely release AK, AQ

I think that you can value bet that river if he will call you with a bunch of unpaired hands or the three or five

the river decision is a close one. if he were more manical (ie like 75/50) there would be no question that you should bet the river. here though it is a much tougher decision. just on a gut feel i don't believe there is much he would call with here that doesn't beat you unless it is A3s or 66,44,22 given your read that he plays a lot of raise or fold poker. so i'd probably check the river, but like i said i think it is very close either way. otherwise, i like the rest of the hand.

Is he really a maniac? His stats make him a definate LAG but his postflop play could be deemed passive if anything. I play the same postflop.

Re: 77 in a big pot against a maniac

Do we have the equity to be capping this preflop? I think I would like it better for FE if we were to act immediately after the maniac. As it is weve got a player that gets trapped and were not closing the action

I reconsidered immediately after posting, if we can knock CO out by forcing 2 cold to him we pick up position, I dig it, maybe worth noting anyway. If you were sure of 4 to the flop would you cap it anyway?
