HU Royal Hold\'em against a madam

Normally when I play Royal HU I play any 2 cards.
Seems to work fine.

I just played against a total madman and he mangled me completley.

He raised PF EVERY hand - and I mean EVERY.
NEVER folded the flop.
Only folded the turn twice (in 33 hands that got that far)
Never folded the river.

He managed to take 22 BB off of me in the space of about 50 hands.

One mistake he did make: When I sat out for a bit he called me a wussy. Bet he was cursing himself when I left.

So, how are you playing against this guy.

Just waiting for big hands won't cut it here since it is HU and the blinds are going to eat up the money real quick.

I haven't played that much royal (and I suck, apparantly, compared to everyone elses amazing results ), but this is how I would approach the situation:

PREFLOP: I would definately be raising anything with decent equity, e.g. top 40 or 50% of hands, AQ, QQ, KQ etc. and up. I would probably be folding JT etc. Re-raise even more when you have position.

POSTFLOP: I would want to be getting to showdonw as much as possible, I think even a straight is going to be good often enough. If he is making continuation bets right through the hand, just let him bluff at you when you have something show-downable. Just make sure the guy pays when you have trips or better.

It's HU poker, so the variance is going to be big, I'm thinking the guy was probably running good, but are you sure you weren't folding to many winners?

HU even a straight is going to be worth a showdown. Obviously there will almost always be a straight draw. JT is the only hand if in the SB I would fold. Otherwise call raises and raise yourself pre flop but stay consistent when you have the big hands (deception). So when you hit trips on the flop you can suck as much money out of that "F" head as possible. Even complete your SB sometimes with AA to induce the bluff and slow play to the turn if you hit trips on the flop. Really "F" with his head. The big risk in Royal when you have a boat draw is if you don't hit it by the river your left with pretty much nothing and a straight ends up being a good hand.

Did you ever three bet him? I'd three bet with any ace and any pocket.

Also, HU in royal is probobly a lot of luck too.

If there is no boat by the river then the straight is on the board. Straights are worthless and are not worth being showndown much ever.

Playing any two cards is a major leak... JT and QJ are just junk in this game.

this game is crazy...
i stumbled into it drunk yesterday. i was in awe with the cards i was getting- thought there was a glitch in teh matrix or something. i finally figured it out- and started to lose once i knew the game.

But i'm trying to figure out some rules to play by:

1)if u flop a strt- Fold- the board will pair up- and the trips won't be yours...
2)play anything paired- quads happen all the time
3)play anything suited...royals are the nuts nuts.
4)raise KK or AA PF
5)play AK- hope for the nut boat
6)only play if u flop 2 pair- or are chasing the royal?

anyone else? this is just a beta version of my rules, but they work so far.
