Manipulation via stack sizes
 

Hey All,
I just read in another thread that sometimes as a large stack, it's wise to keep the medium stack around when around the bubble.
It makes sense to me that threre's something good about this idea, but it's not clear in my mind why.
I think it's because you can siphon money off the medium stack because he tightens up, because he's waiting for a small stack to bust out. Is this correct?

Also, are there other situations like this that I can take advantage of?

It's like you said. You can steal from the medium stacks more easily as long as the shorty is still alive.

This is the advantage of being the big stack.

Sometimes you can get away with a rediculously high number of steals.

I think its wise to pass up marginal EV situations when a small stack goes allin.

I dont think keeping the medium stack is more benefitial as your stack lead would be significant and you would pass up to much EV.

But if the situation is

you 4000
M 2000
M 1500
S 500

and S goes allin and you have say a calling hand in BB you should pass on this when you have control over the table.

You need to look at his stack size (to make sure it is medium) AND LOOK AT HIS INTELLIGENCE LEVEL.

From Memory:

Hero: (3900)
Villian: (3400)
Shortie: (700)
Blinds: 200/400

Shortie Folds
Hero dealt two decent cards and pushes.
Villian calls with A3o.

He risk going out third to call me with that! I hadn't been stealing that much!

Of cousre he hit a 3 on the flop and another on the river.

I went out third!

There is a huge difference in calling standards with a shorty present when on the bubble and ITM.
