A Question About the $50+5 NL Holdem SnG\'s
 

Are the $50+5 sng's very difficult? I read somewhere that the highest ROI a really good player can obtain (over the long run) is only about 10%. Is this true? And if not, what kind of ROI's have you guys experienced? And how many sng's does this include (aka whats your sample size)?

I've played 616 $55 sngs with an ROI of 6%. At the time I thought I was a very good player. Looking back there are quite a few changes I've made to my game since then that could have greatly improved this number. I suspect most responses will be 10% and higher.

I've run at about 8% 8-tabling over my first 1,000 the past month and a half. I also feel I've improved a lot through this stretch. So, a 10% cap is definitely low, especially if you 4-table or less. I'm nowhere near perfect.

I seem to remember a thread about this exact subject from earlier this week, so search for that too.

For comparison, my numbers at the $30's were 14%, $20's were 19%, and $10's were 38% for about 500-700 each.

I should add that there is a vast difference between the players' skill levels in the $50's. There are some total donkeys, but a significant number of regulars, many of whom are pretty good (to me, at least) and many of whom are very predictable.

If you've got the bankroll, dive on in and get some data on your opponents. Familiarity with others' play has been a huge help in improving. I wouldn't underestimate this aspect.

venetian, your $/tourney at those roi:

10/1: 4.18
20/2: 4.18
30/3: 4.62
50/5: 4.40

looks like 30s are your biggest money makers at this point...wouldn't it be wise to move back to 30s and make more money/tourney plus reduce variance?

according to wiki, 20% for 55-210s is a good stat over the long run

so 10% should definitely be attainable

I think I remember eastbay saying that 35% would be doable but anyone that can get 35% is playing at higher levels.

I 4-tabled at all levels below the $50's, so that's part of it. I started at the $50's 4-tabling (maybe 60-80 SNG's), but wanted to try 8-tabling, so I 8-tabled for a couple of days at the $10's to get used to it, then jumped back into the $50's and haven't looked back.

Playing with a 1000-chip stack is also much different than 800. It would take an adjustment period to go back.

Last, I don't think I'm going to get worse and I have the bankroll to swing it, so I'd rather stay at the $50's.

I do see what you're saying, though. I just think that looking into the future, I'll be better off from playing in the $50's.

Anything close to 20% is excellent.

You keep saying this, and I don't agree. If you're averaging close to 20% you don't have 'major' leaks at this level and format. That doesn't mean you wouldn't get a** raped in a Pot Limit Omaha cash game against Phil Ivey, Robert Williamson, and Chau Giang.
