How Bad is Dial-up for Multitabling?

Is dial-up internet too slow/crap for 8-20 tabling internet poker?

Just wondering. Looked at a great house today, but no high speed internet access in that area...no cable or dsl.

I've used it for 4-tabling with no problems, although disconnects suck.

I had dial-up for a long time up until a couple mths ago and I was always fine.
4, 6 or 8 tables...no biggie.

20 tabling?? are you serious??

there might be some pricier satellite-internet options you would want to consider though.

I asked this question a while back. I had been driving to friends houses to use their cable connection, while i tried to get cable set up at my new place. I finally had to get dial up. It works fine, just get disconnects often(not to bad. 2 or 3 times in a day, but that's like 3 to 5k hands) You can still multitable successfully, haven't done more then 9 tables though.

It's not ideal, but it's certainly do-able. Some nights are worse than others as far as disconnects go. The good thing about it is that it's impossible for me to be able to browse the web and play at the same time; it just bogs down the poker site to the point of being unplayable. So, it's good because it forces you to focus on playing.

Have you looked into satellite (like DirecTV)? I know they have a high speed online service. Its a little pricier than cable, but better than nothing.

We use Clearwire.net here (wireless off the cell towers I think.) We're in a non-cable area now also and the dial up connection was iffy at best and 4 tabling was a real problem. The price for this is less than we were paying for cable internet.

I’ve been playing on dial-up for years without problems. I tried a few different ISPs before settling on the local one I now use ... there was a big difference in stability between different providers. 10 games open all the time and I go months between disconnects.

The ISP is a HUGE variable in this equation. Most local ISPs will set up a test account for you to try for 24-48hrs. Take advantage of that to find a good one.
