Is this what\'s meant by protecting? 2 pair on a 3 flush flop..

Is this a standard play, in order to try and give those drawing improper odds? (Although I guess they still have odds when it's 2-cold, no?)

I'm aware of what it turned into.

That doesn't exactly help me understand if it's the correct play or not. I'll assume by your answer that it is?

Your raise is correct, and yes it protects your two pair in this situation. You were in an ideal situation to make the play here, being able to force everyone but the button to have to call two cold.

What you're protecting yourself against is someone with a weak draw that can beat your two pair like AdTs. You're not folding a made flush here, obviously and probably aren't folding A or K of spades. You probably do fold out the KJ/AJ of the world most of the time which is to your benefit because they can make a larger two pair.

Worked out well, but keep in mind you will make this play and still end up losing to a made flush or someone catching a 4th spade.

The play is still +EV and worth making, however, particularly when you're forcing most people to call two cold. A small percentage of the time you might take the pot down there as well, which is a good thing.

Making this play on a rainbow flop or a flop with two suited cards is also correct.

Yeah it looks okay. The problem with just calling and going for a turn check/raise (which is what you should do if you somehow knew the button will bet again) is that the turn might get checked through.
