I know this is not small stakes poker but I wasn't sure where to post it. ANyway, response would be welcome. I feel this was a really tight lay down. Preflop, my range of hands for the villain was JJ-AA, AK, or AQ because it was a larger bet than he has done before. if he has AA, JJ, or QQ i'm done, if he has AK and AQ i'm ahead. Is this just an absurdly tight fold?

This was not necessarily an overtly passive fold. You are behind looking at about 1:3.4 pot odds, but you are getting 1:1 on your money plus what is already in the pot which you didn't specify (please include that next time), so basically a call here would be -EV. But, it seems this hand was taken from tournament play, or at least a SnG, in which case it may have been a good call, or at least a good gamble. It all depends on how aggressively you play your tournies, how deep in the tourny you are, reads on the other player... If this was multiway and you knew there would be at least one more caller I think it would be a wise call... unless you knew he had AA, in which case you are looking at only 6 outs or 1:5.6 and are basically drawing dead looking for an overpair and shooting in the dark to make a straight... IMO

Part of me really wants to call this, but what could he possibly be raising with here?

I smell set, queens over jacks, or aces. Or he's crazy.

I meant 1:4.25 on that last scenario... (villain having AA)...

FYI: the tournament forum would probably be a much more appropriate place for your post. Oh, weak tight is not going to get you anywhere in MTT play, read some skalansky and get a little more comfortable with an aggresive approach. 25NL and especially the cheap SnG games are great fields for honing these skills, from what I hear...
