3/6 vs 5/10
 

I'm sure, so sure, that this has been discussed to death. But searches yielded slim results because searching for terms "3/6 5/10" don't come up with much specific. If you would be so kind as to link some good discussion on this topic, otherwise respond here.

I'm about ready to move up from Party 3/6 6max to 5/10 6max, as the BR is closing in on 5k. I haven't taken one shot at 5/10 yet. Maybe I should and see what it's like for myself. I've read on here that 5/10 is almost the same game as 3/6. Can this be true? I've done well at 3/6 6max, but played only about 30k hands. Ran well, then hit a nasty downswing, and made most of it back by pounding on Stars 2/4 6max (which is a wonderful game, btw) and bonus clearing.

Anything to consider in general when playing 5/10 6max that you don't need to consider much for 3/6 6max? I'm assuming it's table selection, as there are probably more skilled players at 5/10, but enough of a fish population to keep it worthwhile.

My original plan was to go back to full ring once I hit 5/10, but I see the shorthanded games are much more profitable, albeit swingier. On the horizon is 10/20 6max, but I'm deathly afraid of that game. I play 10/20 and 15/30 live, and mostly that's no problem.

i've never played the 3/6 game but as i've understand it its cuite similar. 5/10 is of curse a bit trickyer but still 5/10 is a very nice loosepassive limit, i havn't had any problems with the 5/10

About the same, actually.

A bit more aggro, a bit more tricky players, more TAGs, more variance.

The bad players are more aggressive. But LPP's aren't extinct at 5/10 either.

I've decided to start playing 2/4 Stars due to hearing this from several different people. I've heard it's more weak/tight than the Party fish, correct?

I moved up to 5/10 in October/November after being at 3/6 for months. The 5/10 games is more aggressive, particularly preflop. You won't get 3-4 limpers as often as at 3/6, and postflop the players are marginally better.

That being said, its not like there's never unraised pots. There's still plenty of LPs for you to abuse, and I've run across a couple guys playing something like 40/35 if you want to work on fighting a maniac and can stomach the variance. Just mine the hell out of 5/10 before you move up and pay close attention to table selection. I think finding tables you're comfortable with is probably the most important thing to consider when moving from 3/6 to 5/10.
