9-high flush with 4 on the board, value bet?

Let's pretend Hero isn't on perma-tilt from getting rivered on three consecutive hands (8 pairs in three hand, no good). 2/4 live game. There are a lot of fish, one fairly bad LAG and one good LAG at the table.

Hero has A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

good LAG folds UTG, one fish limps, Hero raises, some fold, bad LAG cold-calls, BB (young guy, just sat down) calls, fish calls.

flop (4 players, 8.5 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB checks, fish checks, Hero bets, bad LAG folds, BB calls, fish folds)

turn (2 players, 5 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

river (2 players, 7BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
BB checks, Hero ???

From what I've seen so far, I think I have to call if I'm raised.

Well yeah you should certainly bet the river. He played his hand poorly on the river if he has a higher [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (or any [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] for that matter). Obviously he would be playing better (with a spade) if he knew that you were a good player, but he has no idea since he just sat down. A good player would expect another good player to check the 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] behind on the turn, so his play appeared to work out this time.

My theory on these types of hands is that you shouldn't bet the turn unless you have the nuts or nothing. Look at the advantage of checking the 4th nut flush on the turn...

1) If he has nothing he will just fold and he isn't folding a better hand here.
2) He might bluff the river after you check the turn.
3) He might check/call the river fearing that you are bluffing after you check the turn.
4) You save $$$ when you are behind.
5) It is WA/WB so you will almost never get outdrawn when you are behind and you are drawing dead when he has you beat.

So my play here is to check the turn and then either call a river bet or bet the river when checked to.

err... bet the river.

thought it was quite obvious, what was the question?

The question was "Value bet the river?" It probably is obvious but I'm pretty bad at limit, and a lot of that is missing obvious river bets where people will pay me off.

I would have folded this hand pre-flop.

Once you get to the river, betting depends a lot on your opponent. Since he just sat down, I assume you know little about his play. All he has done so far is check and call, giving us very little information. I would usually check this down unless I felt confident I would get called by a lesser hand. I have no idea what BB has, and we can see for free. I would check.

*grunch*

Bet the river. Only 3 cards can beat you, A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

He could have a low [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], a pair of Kings or even deuces.

There's 3 cards that beat you on the river, and since he didn't raise the turn I doubt he has any of 'em.

I bet and fold to a raise here.
