which odds to use?

Greetings all,
Let's say you are playing limit hold'em, it is post flow and you figure you have 4outs. The pot is offering you 5 to 1, if you use rule of 4/two cards to come, you have enough to call and see the turn , if you use rule of two/one card to come, you are short (needing 10.5 to 1) Would you use the safer numbers and pass or the "looser" numbers call and re-evaluate on the turn. Hopefully this made sense, thanks in advance

If you count your odds with two cards to come, be sure to figure what you think you'll have to contribute to the pot to see the river.

It seems like it's usually better to consider just the next card except in cases where you have a lot of pot equity and more callers than your "share". I.E. a flush draw in a 4 or 5 handed pot.

You only use the odds with 2 cards to come if you know there will be no more betting (one person is all-in)

Presumably this refers only to the 4-out draw posited in the OP, not all of limit hold'em. (I use the odds with 2 cards to come quite frequently for strong draws, because chances are I'll have odds to stay in.)

But really the other response is right -- you can use odds with two cards to come only if you're factoring in the big bet that you'll have to pay if you miss on the turn.
