Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

I'm in the Vegas one. I've only been to one meeting but the emails are great. I'd be in for a SoCal one too. Depending on when and where I might not make a whole bunch more meetings than I do for vegas.

Now if we meet week days after 4:30 at Oceans 11 I'll be happy to make every meeting (hell I'm mostly there anyhow:) )

Are you in the Vegas group? If so do you post to the email list?

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

I think the Vegas discussion group works because it's Vegas and it's not like SoCal where we already have some people who live in the OC, some who want to meet in Oceanside, people like me who live in West LA, and other people who live all over SoCal.

I doubt someone drives an hour in traffic to go to a weekly Vegas discussion.

Are there enough Los Angeles (I'm in West Los Angeles) peeps for this to happen, whatever it is?

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

I have never attended the vegas group, but I constantly hear about it. I would like to have the ability to have discussion about poker, none of my friends play seriously, so here is pretty much it. The location is a problem as mentioned, I live in Ontario and work in Brea which is about a 20 minute drive to the Bike, but even a bi-monthly or a roating location will allow more to participate and learn from eachother. Any additional ideas from anyone appreciated.

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

yea same here. none of my friends play poker seriously, they're just sh1tty casual players. i have only 1 serious poker playing friend. his the only one that can keep up with me.

btw where do you work in brea? i go to CSUF which is only a few mins away from brea.

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

how long have you beet at YLCC? how often do you play? and there are better courses in south county unless they have had the membership for a while. Brea is where I played my first round of golf, havent been there in years but occasionally have lunch with a friend at Breas best(he works across the street)

I'd be up for a group, but I'm in Riverside CO (Temecula) area. Anybody ever go over to Pechanga or Pala to play?

New Cardroom at Pechanga is done, not the banquet room of the old place. pretty nice, with tournament section in the middle.

Is it still downstais with no cell phone reception? that sucked! I have a job interview down there next week, I'll probably check it out then.

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

No, it's in the new section, it's upstairs across from the flashy nightclub lounge. Don't know about the Cell reception, I have sprint and it sucks in many places around here.

Pala? did they add a poker room? Played the Pechanga Open Sunday. 382 players managed to beat 354 of them to make a bit of coin for 28th.

I'm in. PM if anything gets started. I'm just north of Oceans 11 but most So Cal cardrooms are doable if the time is right.

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

Ok TDog lets give this a try. I just setup a topica list so we can at least start some dialog. Send a blank email to:
SoCalPoker-subscribe@topica.com to join the list.

You should be able to join by searching on topica.com for SoCalPoker too.

I'm thinking we could have local meetings frequently for the various pockets of people and then get together once a month or so as a larger group.

Ok guys it's in your court now.

It's right next to the new location for Hero's near (and north) of the railroad tracks on a spur street just west of Harbor Blvd. A young crowd takes over after nine but they have a corner stage and great music most nights (Wed thru Sat).

Actually not a good place for a meeting but a cool bar for music and martinis.

i don't know where the continental room is. but my high school prom was held at some "fullerton ballroom", same thing?

I'm guessing this is just meeting up to play poker? I have a hectic schedule but I'll throw my name in the hat though just in case I can make some meetings. I live in Baldwin Hills.

The ballroom might be a big second floor place just west of Harbor across from the Downtown Grill-Tuscany Club.

The Continental Room is very narrow but well laid out and decorated with a small corner stage. You might want to stop by and get a music schedule. The "Busstop Hurricanes" (sp?) is one band worth a look .

oceans 11 is good fun, i like the $40 NL game, good way to take a break from fixed all the time

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

The idea is to meet up away from the table to discuss poker, were not reinvetngin "The Crew" or anything like that, but I am sure most of us can learn a thing or two from others knowledge/experience, etc.

Dont know how many people we are talking about, I sent an email to that address. But what if we thought about meeting like 2x a month, once in the LA area and once in the SD/IE area?

Re: Is anyone interested in starting a Southern Cali discussion group?

I'm up for meeting anywhere. I sent a email to that addy. Lemme know whats up. I'd hope the meetings weren't at a 21 casino because I would probably get carded. Of course if someone could supply me with a fake or something...

That sounds workable. Hell if we get enough people in LA and SD we could meet weekly in both locals and then get together say once a month as a larger group.

I just checked and we are up to 14 subscribers to the list sofar.

I'm thinking at least in San Diego that the meetings would likely be better offsite from a casino but clolse by.
