OT: Would you knock another 2+2r out on the bubble?

So, I'm playing in a deep stack tourney sometime last week. I'm at the table with another 2+2r. I wouldn't have known it except he'd started a thread. We end up at the same table eventually.

He loses a good chunk of his stack and is short stacked on the bubble. There's one more person to go until we place. This is the TRUE bubble. He moves in, in MP. I'm in the SB. I have 87os and it's folded to me. My stack is pretty comfortable and I decide to call. I knock out his AK and he just wasted 5+ hrs of his time. Not to mention the BB folded with only 200 chips to call (idiot). So If I fold, he's taking the pot down and could place.

Part of me felt bad. Another part of me says, I'm in it for the money. I'm going to play the same against any other player, why should it change for this guy?

So, what do you think? What would you do?

Uh, I usually try and end up doubling them up.

See: Exitonly4 this weekend in the 30+3.

Edit: I don't think the bubble should make a difference, and I can't softplay the whole forum.

I see it like playing at the same table with a friend in a casino.

Soft playing each other simply because we know each other is at best, unethical.

As for another 2+2r, your relation is even less.

Fair enough, but it was a deep stack tournament. We're looking at 5-6 hrs of wasting his time to lose on the bubble.

You're at my table, I bust you.

Everyone knows the risk of busting out just before the bubble. I wouldn't softplay just due to someone posting here and I hope nobody here would softplay for me if the roles were reversed. When I win a tournament I want it to be on my own merits and I don't want anyone to be able to say "You wouldn't have won if I hadn't folded such-and-such hand that had you beat."

Not to burst YOUR bubble (ha-ha) but playing for 6 hours and making a $20 profit from sneaking into the money b/c someone you don't know that just happens to post on the same internet message board as you decided to softplay you, would still count as a waste of 6 hours.

I would kill everyone in this room for a drop of sweet beer, let alone for their chips on the bubble...

In a satellite, I'd let another 2+2er slide. Otherwise the cost to you is real: in chips, in table image, and psychologically.
