Chicagoland Poker on 1/6-7

Because I have to make a return trip to Chicago sometime in the next 6 weeks, I've decided to make it a road trip with one of my buddies, possibly 2. We're going to hit up the Chicagoland cardrooms, and from the sound of things, most likely the Trump Indiana.

With that in mind, how does one go about getting the poker rate for the room? I called up there and they told me you only have to play two hours to get the rate. So should I just book the room, then talk to the poker room manager? They told me it would be $44 a night after 2 hours. Sound about right?

I was reading the Wikipedia entry on the cardroom, and it seems like I should expect a pretty good game selection. For an online 3/6 multitabler, would 6/12 be my game of choice? In my area, I used to play the 5/10 live game because it was usually better than the only 10/20 table. Any advice/experience with the rooms in this area would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bring hand sanitizer. Use it every time you touch the chips. They are grody. Nice room, though.

Ryan,

goto the Resorts room instead, cleaner, chips are newer, games are juicy, better casino overall. There is no hotel but when I went I stayed at the Ramada hotel in Hammond Indiana for like $60/night, it was decent and worth the price. It's about 10 min away from the boats.

Also, if you are north of Chicago, the trip to Potowotami in Milwuakee may be worth it. For me, it is about an hour to both the Pot and East Chicago resorts. They spread every limit up to 20/40 and some NL. Every game I've ever played there has been juicy as hell.

Yes. Go ahead and book you room. After you've played for a couple hours go to the desk in the poker room and ask them to call the hotel for the poker rate. Be sure to tell them that you already have the room booked. They are the most cooperative place I've ever encountered in terms of getting a great rate for the room. And, yes, the room will come to $44 with tax. Even on weekends.

Resorts definitely has a hotel. I have no idea what the rates are, but those 20 or so stories sitting next to the boat are definitely a hotel.

For me, I'm just looking to see where I'll get the best low- to mid-limit action. I'm taking one of my friends along with me, who plays at a lower limit than I do. We've never hit up any of the casinos in this area, so it's all about game selection. I just figured the Trump would work with the poker rate and what not.

Oh yeah, how many tables are actually at the Trump? I guess if Resorts has more, I'd probably go there.

Re: Chicagoland Poker on 1/6-7

They only have 10 tables total. Games are juicy as hell, but the wait is killer long, especially in the winter. You can shave an hour off the wait if you call ahead.

Id say probally a huge chunk (if not most) of the players are from Northern Illinois, especially on the weekend.

if you can beat 3/6 online you should be playing at least 10/20 or 20/40 at Resort. Both of the games are horribly played.

At Trump it's 3/6, 6/12 and 10/20 all with kills. The lowest Resorts game is 5/10 with kill. Oh, they have 1-5 stud.

The Trump room is a bit bigger than Resorts. You can call ahead to both rooms to get on the list.

i think it is 4 hours of play time for the poker room rate, but i could be mistaken. The rooms arent great, but when i go i dont really care about the room, I just dont want to have to drive home that night. I usually play there a few hours and then drive to resorts which is only about a mile away. Games at both are weak.

I am pretty sure that trump has more than ten tables.

Resorts rates are typically $89 weeknight, $99-109 Fri night, $129 Sat. YMMV.

I only actually paid for a room once. The first time I ever went there. Every other time has been comped simply by asking for a comp for my room. I do play a lot though, maybe my 'points' has something to do with it.

Do you get comped from your poker play alone, or is it also based at tables and machines?

It's 44 bucks if you play 4 hours at the poker room M-F. You can call ahead as well for putting you name on the list.

The lowest limit game is 5-10, and there is no kill on the 5-10 contrary to another post the guy said.

They have 16 tables. 1-5 Stud, 2-10, usually 4 or 5 5-10 games going, 2 or 3 10-20 games going through a feeder system with a main table, a half kill on the 10-20 game. Usually 2 20-40 games going with a half kill, and 2 NL games 200 min 500 max buy in.

If your looking for the best poker room manager ask for Jay or Yanna (african american).

As far as the difference between Trump and Resorts :

Resorts: more friendly, nicer chips, good games, more tables
Trump : more space, eatery on same floor, have tourneys more often, but the chips do really suck trust me you will find out.

I play more at Resorts then Trump but its give and take.

Oh yeah on Saturday they play Omaha Hi/Lo 5/10 full kill only game in the state for Omaha and only day you will see it. Occasionally at Resorts you will get a 30-60 H.O.S.E game and even rarer is a 40-80 or 50-100 limit game but when they happen they usually last two days straight through

I only go to Potawatomi on weekends, I don't think they even start lists for 15/30 or 20/40 anymore. Often times, the 10/20 isn't even running. Everybody wants to play NL so the bigger limit games are dying. 10/20 is real good when it's running. NL has $600 max buy-in and has been good when I've played. Sometimes if you're lucky, there will be 2 NL tables (1 a must move). Some good players & sometimes you'll have 7 guys limping every pot.

Unless you get their real early or real late, expect to wait forever. You can call in up to 1 hour in advance now.

What? 20/40? And just what day, week, or month is that game suppose to ACTUALLY GO? NOT LATELY !! They can barely get a 10/20 going.
