Hand 2, as played lead the turn for $50, $42 is weird.

It looks fine.

Re: A few SSNL hands I need help with...

I agree with Maulik for hand 1.

Hand 2 looks fine, except I would bet a little more maybe, since a flush draw might technically be getting implied odds (real pot odds are ~3:1 right now). bet 3/4 the pot...

For hand 3, I think you can call and expect to see a worse eight often enough for this to be +EV (especially since he's in the BB)

I'm in the BB in hand 3. is there value in raising?

It's completely player dependent.

Case 1: Player is good enough to lay down 78 or 98 in the face of a raise.
Case 2: Player will pay off with any eight.

Case 1 is a clear calling situation since he won't pay off most of the time and you open yourself to a reraise which would suck. Even case two isn't clearcut, because if you raise and get reraised, it's almost certain you are beat (yet you might reach the point of commitment already).

In a general case, I would probably just call unless I had some sort of monster read on the guy.
