Re: 99 in the SB (30/60)

This looks like a play I could have made, and lately I have found myself thinking maybe I am over-using marginal aggression.

I think checkraising 99 on a Q-8-2 board against a preflop raisor betting into five opponents, with 3 of these still in the hand at the point you checkraise, is streching it too far.

Of course, the rainbow, ragged nature of the board helps the checkraise-cause but not enough I think.

No matter what MP2 held, I think he played his hand pretty poorly.

It seems like MP2 has some sort of Ace-King hand and has an extremely long fishing pole.

This flop check raise worked perfectly, if you get a cold caller or two you should probably give up.

Given that you didn't, the turn bet is perfect. After MP2 calls however, he probably has either JJ or AK. He'll call the river with JJ, probably won't w/ AK. Check/call the river, and give him a chance to bluff.

Flop is fine, turn is fine. Check-call the river. It's unlikely he's paying you off with a worse hand but might bluff with it and also might check through TT/JJ.

Would calling the flop and making a move on the turn have been a better option (given a safe card)? Maybe I consider this now, only because a safe card fell - LOL.

If MP2 had A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] do you still think he played it poorly? What should he have done differently?

I don't like in this case because you are in perfect position to knock people out here on the flop, and there will be a lot of unsafe turns where you might still be ahead but might prevent you from pulling the trigger on a turn c/r. Also, no guarantee that your opponent bets the turn if it's a blank.

Would you have just called Lars? What's your action on the turn?

C'mon, not a chance. You will have no idea how to play the turn and there will be a decent field. OP line is the only legit one.
