What I believe to be true is simply that the window will update if (a) it is active and (b) it is time to update. All you can do is keep the lobby window active (in front, selected, etc) and wait. I think most of the tricks in this thread seem to work because they get you to make the lobby window active one way or another.

it sounds like all of these ideas are just "time illusions" whereby you are simply wasting time doing these other things while waiting for the update which will happen at its own pace and own time, wouldn't be the first time that I was wrong.

Also sorry about the derogatory comments earlier, just having a bad night and I apologize to those offended.
