234x hands

In a limit game is it +EV to limp with 234X if you intend to fold the flop if you don't catch an Ace + low draw?

Re: 234x hands

in my mind is a positional and # of players already limped into the pot issue.

I don't like it because the times I've played it I either ditch it on the flop (when no ace/lo draw flops) or else I do play on and get quartered. A lot. In loose games there are a ton of people who play 23XX. Even if everything goes according to plan and you make the nut low you've got no high (except for the occasional straight, which may not be the nuts). If I haven't been dealt anything in awhile this hand can start to look good, that's when I need to slap myself back into reality (Unless the game is shorthanded - then I'll usually see a flop with this hand).

Not sure if this will make sense but...

I will play this hand from late position, at a tightish table at 3/6 and above.

Down at the 1/2 games, I see way more quartering because people can't lay down a hand.

I will play it cautiously.

This discussion came up a few weeks ago; it should be in the search somewhere. You need good odds for these hands, but they're not bad. You'll want to be in MP/LP after a few limpers, or anticipating a loose game.

These hands do much better when your opponents are also loose postflop.

Yeah I forgot to clarify, I was assuming your in LP, 4+ limpers and its unraised.

No idea. I would suggest never playing 234x unless you like trouble.

Hard to fold those big draws huh.

Re: 234x hands

You have an easy call. When you flop well, the ace gives loose players a great reason to continue with non-nut lows and paired ace hands, which is exactly what you want.

Maybe chill out with the pot-limit stuff when OP asks a limit question? This isn't the first time, and you aren't the only one who does it. Problem is - the advice is always misleading, or worse. You guys have enough territory as is - no need to hijack.

Only my advice was for limit. Don't be a prick all your life. 234x is trouble in any game.
