Did I play this right?

I get A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I call in early position(10/20 game), there is a raise from mid, one more call, I call.

Flop: J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I check, Pre-flop raiser checks, there is a bet, me and pre-flop raiser call.

Turn: K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], giving me the straight. I bet, pre-flop raiser calls, other guy folds.

River: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] I bet, pre-flop raiser raises, I call.

I'll give the results later, but how do you think I played this?

Note - Repost from Internet forum, but this time not in hand history format.

Re: Did I play this right?

Im sure the flop is questionable. Looks like you
were getting 8.5 to one on a call. Not bad for a gutshot
as long as there is no flush draw or BIG PAIR on the
board, so its still questionable...At this point
you cant beat any raising hand.

Turn..You have 2 opps on your left, if they wont
bet AK (because of the pair on the board) you
should bet, else check-raise...Opponent
dependant..If your not sure, Id lean towards a checkraise
because even if lead guy doesnt bet, the other guy
still might.

River you played fine by not overplaying your hand
(Win or lose, which Im guessing you lost, and
actually saved a heck of a lot more money than
I would of by playing the turn the way you did)

Yep, I lost - a guy had J-T. I also should have noted that two new players had come to the table before the hand, so there were 3 BBs and one SB, giving me better odds.

Not openraising preflop is inexcusable.

Re: Did I play this right?

I'm not sure if A-Q is so great a hand as to be raising from early position, but with all the blinds in it was probably a good idea.

It was my first 10/20 game and I was a little overly cautious.

Did I play this right? - Maybe

If the guy on your left had an odor problem, I could see you leaning to the right. Did you play incorrectly? Yes.

Raise AQ pre-flop. Make hands like JT pay two bets to see the flop.

There is a big differnce between weak and cautious. I understand how a bigger limit can be intimidating, and if you want to be cautious you can tighten up. If you can't play your best games at higher limits, you might not be ready for them.

No

If you are the first one in, you MUST raise with A Q.
