Raise or Call?
Pacific $2/$4 Hold'em (10 Handed)
I limp UTG+1 w/ KJ [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 3 limpers and the blinds follow. Flop comes 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. BB bets, I raise . . . Scott |
Re: Raise or Call?
raise and built a pot
you're worried about knocking out people but there are to many gutshots out there to worry about it to much. Besides knocking out a player with a queen or ace isn't bad |
Re: Raise or Call?
I say raise.

Why no preflop raise?

[/ QUOTE ] there's no standard play for KJs in ep. limping in a loose game is fine. Raising in a loose game is fine. Always raise against a weak tight table. |

Why no preflop raise? [/ QUOTE ] KJs is a pretty good hand to open limp EP. I wouldn't feel too comfortable opening with it, unless my table was pretty tight, and I had an equally tight image. loose tables this is a requirement to open limp with. encourage a lot of action behind you, your hand plays well multi-way. |

[/ QUOTE ] For the same reason, I imagine you always open limp AKs, which is fine, though I think it better to mix it up a bit, if only to see which style fits you best under which circumstances. |
Re: Raise or Call?
1. Pre-flop discussion here is stupid. It is a well-established fact that the call/raise question with KJs is open to debate and really just can't possibly matter that much in the long run. Do whatever the hell you want. I raise because I like raising.
2. Raise the flop. You'll get action from straight draws and such. Hands like KQ and AJ will be hard pressed to call here. You might fold out other overcards that dirty your outs further. You might be able to take a free card. You have tons of equity. Yada yada yada... |
Re: Raise or Call?
Raise. The worst you'd be at this time would be if he's holding 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]-9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in which case you have six outs. (6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is obviously no good).
I'd assume here he's on a straight or flush draw or maybe flopped top pair. Either way, you want to build a pot here because of your pot and implied odds. If he's got a 9 (say A-9), then you're in good shape. |
Re: Raise or Call?
raise...the overcards will fold, the straight/flush draws won't.
actually, the overcards might not, but that's ok too |

[ QUOTE ] Why no preflop raise? [/ QUOTE ] You saw that I'm in early position, right? [/ QUOTE ] Yes I saw that. Against loose and bad opponents raising KJs preflop is fine from any position, since you should have a definite preflop edge. This is Pacific after all. |
