Party 750k cripple-me hand

180 left, I have about 21k. Avg. is 17k I'm in no trouble.

3 orbits into a new table, I haven't played a hand. I'm in the cutoff with T8s and open raise 3BB to 4500. the SB (with 17000) minireraises to 7500. I call.

Flop comes T64, BB bets 5000 of his remaining 9500. I push.

My real question is the preflop action, but the flop push is also up for debate.

players in late and blind position get cards too. top pair was second best here to overpair.

reraises, and min raises typically mean something. this was not a $5 buy in.

fold preflop?

Re: Party 750k cripple-me hand

tough hand.

raising to $4,500 left you with 11xbb. Calling the min raise to $7500, leaves you with 9xbb, which is IMO a nice time to start thinking about a play for the remaining portion of your stack. Table conditions were proper for your preflop raise, and I like it. Givin BB stack of 11x and only min raising causus some concern, unless he's a dope, which in this tourney i doubt. Given how the hand played out, I think I go broke here also.

Reads would be nice to have here,,, any?

Maybe we should think about this a different way. Prior to flop you had 14x bb...which is not a bad pile. Stealing the blinds would have given you $2,250 more/or 15.5xbb... which is not incrementally/substantionally more or changing the style of poker you can play moving on. That said, I think I just let this go preflop (not raising in the first place), and wait for better cards. Manyatime, have a pissed away a nice portion of my stack by getting cute.

Can we fold to the min-raise here? I think that's the best move. Cash game I call it. Tourney, I'm folding because he's representing a hand that has me crushed.

Addendum

It was close to a prize jump, and the BB was on a relatively short stack. I think the preflop steal is borderline automatic but zambonidrvr makes a great point about the difference between 14 and 15.5 BB being almost negligible.

I would never in a million years play w/ this hand unless it was a guaranteed limp in.

And I would never in a million years open-limp with this hand.

And you will never in a million years be a good player unless you try to steal.

I'd fold to the min raise. If the stacks were a little deeper I'd call but would fold unless I hit something larger than a pair. You tried to steal, you got caught. Live to fight another day.
